Battlefield 4 dev: 60 fps is top priority for next gen consoles

Frame rate is top priority for DICE on next gen, and "everything else is secondary".

Battlefield 4 developer DICE reveals in a new interview with Eurogamer that achieving 60 frames per second was the top priority on the next gen systems, the PS4 and Xbox One. “Everything else was secondary”. Next gen systems support 64 players, as does the PC version.

DICE goes a bit more into detail, saying that 64 players really makes the difference when you go from 24, as is the case with current gen systems. With 64 players and 60 FPS, DICE said that the PS4 and Xbox One are getting “the full Battlefield experience” in the living room.

PC gamers will of course be able to push 60 frames per second if their hardware allows it, and if their monitor allows it, even more than 60 FPS.

Next gen consoles are also getting the brand new Battlefield 4 Commander feature, as well as the new Spectator mode. And while Spectator mode is confirmed for current gen consoles, it’s unclear whether Commander will be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Current gen consoles are stuck with 24 players in online multiplayer.

    If they want us to have the full Battlefield experience they would add bots back. They were in the games from Battlefield 1942 – 2142 so it is very possible for them to add it in all the upcoming ones as well until the very end of the series.

    Agreed with acahap, 1080 should be a must, 60 inch plasma as well, i want to finally be able to make use of it. I want stunning looks, not just more players. Id rather have same 24 players with more powerful visuals. Time will tell though.

    I would also prefer 24 players and 60 fps 1080p. Bots would also be amazing, whether your internet’s down or you have none – or you just dont want to play competitively.

    Take it from me, someone who went from console to PC – 64 players is a lot more fun than 24. Moving it down to 24 players for slightly better looking graphics is far from worth it in my opinion.

    The second you jump into the carnage of a 64 player battle the last thing you’re focusing on, let alone caring about is the graphics.

    General rule of thumb is play the game for the gameplay, not looks. Looks are only so much, 64 player battles on the other hand…

      And if I remember correctly, the only reason that xbox360 and ps3 had 24 players is because of bandwidth limitations.

    WTF who cares about the visuals ? The game is gonna look brilliant already. You don’t play games solely for graphics do you;
    64 players @720P, 60FPS > 24 players @1080p/4k, 60FPS

    I bet the settings is gonna mixture of med-high @720P with only DX10 to maintain a good 60fps. But, then again I am watching some videos that show that the 7850 (PS4 GPU) can max out (w/o AA) BF3 and get 50-65 average fps. But, then agian… again, the cpu and RAM is more powerful in those videos than the actual PS4
