Battlefield 4 dev: 60 fps is top priority for next gen consoles
Battlefield 4 developer DICE reveals in a new interview with Eurogamer that achieving 60 frames per second was the top priority on the next gen systems, the PS4 and Xbox One. “Everything else was secondary”. Next gen systems support 64 players, as does the PC version.
DICE goes a bit more into detail, saying that 64 players really makes the difference when you go from 24, as is the case with current gen systems. With 64 players and 60 FPS, DICE said that the PS4 and Xbox One are getting “the full Battlefield experience” in the living room.
PC gamers will of course be able to push 60 frames per second if their hardware allows it, and if their monitor allows it, even more than 60 FPS.
Next gen consoles are also getting the brand new Battlefield 4 Commander feature, as well as the new Spectator mode. And while Spectator mode is confirmed for current gen consoles, it’s unclear whether Commander will be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Current gen consoles are stuck with 24 players in online multiplayer.
