New details about Battlefield 4 commander selection process

Players will join a special queue in Battlelog to become Commanders of a team, and can be voted off by squad leaders.

We were pleasantly surprised when DICE unveiled the new Battlefield 4 commander feature. And even more surprised when it turned out that the Commander didn’t count towards the 64 players, so in effect, Battlefield 4 supports 66 players.

But a few questions arose with a system like that: how do players apply to be Commanders, and what happens when a Commander is kicked out by his team? Does he get booted off the server? Apparently, he does.

DICE answered some of the questions via Twitter regarding the Commander selection process, saying that players will have to queue in Battlelog to be Commanders on a team. In fact, it won’t be based on rank like in previous version (BF2/2142). In Battlefield 4, you simply join the Commander queue in Battlelog and wait to get picked.

If a Commander isn’t doing a good job, squad leaders will be able to initiate a vote to kick the Commander off the team and replace him with someone else.

The Commander in Battlefield 4 will be playable on tablets such as iPads, which will connect to a game server with no need for a PC or games console. The Commander feature will be supported on all platforms.

Yes. Commander on tablets is cross-platform.

I think it is a good system. Though I would like that rank can still sort of prioritize you into the queue.

How can he die, will he be going 100-0(example) every game or something?. If he does kill someone, does he get the points or do they spread out towards every player on the field?….Sorry, never played BF2//BF2142

Is there an in-depth thing about how this works and well the person controlling him

^ dude its simple don’t over think the commander role.

I think the commander should be able to play in FPS mode to go repair assets…oh..wait there are no assets that we can destroy like radar, and artillery this time around….right?…Darn they did this thing again..OVERSIMPLIFIED THINGS FOR DUMB CONSOLE PLAYERS!

    That sounds fair.

Some Wishlist items for BF4 Post E3.

+ Add separate sensitivity settings for each vehicle.
+ Allow an injured teammates (waiting to be revived) view to be of the closest medic so the person can see a medic is coming to revive them.
+ Once revived show the persons name who revive you on screen.
+ Ability to cook grenades or determine the distance we can throw one.
+ Ability to lean/peak around corners
+ Improve close vicinity surround sound.
+ Add front quick knife to the head as an instant kill.
+ Add the ability to pick up a grenade and throw it back.
+ Add the ability to shoot an RPG in the air and destroy it.
+ Add the ability to shoot a land mine and destroy it.
+ Add the ability to throw your knife.
+ Add Team assist to the top of the end round scoreboard to promote teamwork. As in: Assisted team kills – Most team revives – Most vehicle repairs – Most Captured flags – Most ammo provided to team – Most Commander orders followed by squad – Most spot assist –
+ Add ability to promote or demote a squad leader by vote.
+ Bring back the helmet ping and popping off when getting a head-shot on someone like in BFBC2.
    – Add ability for tank drivers/gunners to only spot landmines when using IR.

    – Remove loss of health when a person runs into you while sprinting.
    – Remove the ability for a burst fire weapon to jam while spamming the fire button.
    – Claymores wont kill you if you’re using the “Flak” perk 90% damage only.
    – Profanity Add an option to turn it off.

Half the things you said are stupid.
      – The sensitivity should remain the same otherwise tanks would dominate
      – you can cook grenades, hold the aim button at the same time as throwing the grenade. (bf3)
      – RPGs don’t self detonate in reality, so they won’t in the game
      – you can destroy landlines by shooting it, using magnums, slug shotguns and snipers
      – throwing your knife is just dumb. Go play COD.
      – if you want a new leader, join another squad or change team.
      – why do you want head shot noise? It tells you if you got a headshot.
      – you can spot using IR

RPG’s do self-detonate in reality, actually, but it’s at approximately 1000 meters from launch. The insurgents in Iraq and the Taliban in Afghanistan used to volley-fire them to take down coalition helos.

    Seriously “Asiaticdefense” :

You wanna be able to shoot RPG and throw knives? There are other games for you….(not naming names)

You have always been able to shoot landmines in BF3, just use the correct weapons (Revolvers, sniperrifles)

You already can cook grenades in BF4.

We don’t want teamrevives, most people don’t even want revives to be in the game since we kill 3 people then the fourth guy in the squad just revives all of them.

We DO want the possibility like in BF2 to change squadleaders. Now we have to leave the squad and make a new one.

Claymores do 92% damage when you use Flak. (Or you could just crouch and take no damage)

The simplest change to revives that would help would just be a much longer recharge time for the defibrillator, stopping medic trains in their tracks.

I have a feeling that most players will not be fair about voting off commanders…..they will probably vote them off just because they want the commander role.

You can’t be a player AND a commander in BF4. It’s not like BF2142 in that way (I never played as a commander in BF2).

Im really not sure how this Commander mode will turn out on BF4…i have a bad feeling that it could become more of a hindrance/irritant than helpful…time will tell.

I dont wanna sound like a know it all. But sorry josh. You cant cook grenades. You can hold them in your hand and run around with it. However even though it looks like your pulling the pin, no matter how much you hold that grenade, it will never blow and it will always have the same amount of time before it exploads no matter how much you hold onto it.
