EA pushed Battlefield 4 through quality control to beat Call of Duty

According to a BF4 QA tester, EA pushed the game through quality control in order to be Call of Duty to the market.

Battlefield 4 brokenBattlefield 4 is facing a number of issues on all platforms at the moment. From server crashes, to client crashes and freezes (both on PC and consoles), to an awful netcode, things aren’t all that great at the moment.

Luckily, DICE is working hard to fix these issues. And according to a new report, this awful situation might have started with publisher EA.

According to a QA tester at DICE, EA pushed the game through the quality control and testing phase in order to beat Call of Duty Ghosts to market. The quality control team at DICE simply did not have enough time to test all the features, vehicles, weapons, etc.

Which is why, for example, a bug mutes the everyone on the server if a any player in the match uses a silencer on a particular weapon. It’s the kind of bugs that are picked up in testing, but only when you have time to properly test the game.

The QA tester explains in a communique with a Reddit moderator how Battlefield 4 was tested, and he also reveals some of the challenges they face. For example:

“Let’s say we test the SPAS-12 in June before we release. Then a sound guy makes a change in July which breaks it. Do you test everything again? Do you forbit anyone to work on the SPAS-12 after we’ve tested it?”

We’ve previously criticized Battlefield 4 heavily — calling it unplayable at one point — but our intentions are always good: we want DICE to know the various problems the game faces. We’re sure they’re working hard to fix everything, and with a complex game such as Battlefield 4, it takes time and it’s hard to really perfect anything.

The reason all of this is happening points to EA, the parent company of DICE. In their quest to beat Call of Duty to the market, they released a broken game.

In the end, EA won out. Battlefield 4 beat out Call of Duty Ghosts to the market. By one week. Was it worth it?

Hey did they feel comfortable releasing the game on Xbox 360 without the support of creating a squad with your friends in the main menu of the game? It’s just embarrassing.

seriously though, not being able to ‘squad up’ makes it so much harder to get into games together
then you add in unacceptable numbers of complete system freezes, which then lead to single player data corruption
the whole thing is disappointing, this China Rising pack better have HUGE patches/fixes

I disagree. If you look on any game’s official forums, chances are that that game’s developers are not only the worst company, but the developers devour puppies in front of children just for fun.

I have watched and bought most games from EA over my 20_ years of gaming and I will state a fact. EA has pushed the release of EVERY game they are publishers of and EVERY game has been shit at release because of it. EA is a shitty money hungry company and I will NEVER buy another game with the EA mark on it again, and I’m sure many millions more will do the same. EA needs to be shut down as a gaming publisher because companies like EA do nothing but rob gamers because they think we are all little idiot kids.

I know for a fact that i will not buy an EA game again, even if it is suppose to be good. they have ruined too many games and they don’t support the real gamers so they have lost my money.

Like some people stated that DICe is responsible for all those problems that happend with bf3 and will happen with BF4 , ye we criticize the game because we love BF and want it to reach the whole world like BF3 did and more than that.

DICE is a horrible company and will be in state of fire if they keep this up!
next we will get is a update of 10GB or more and you dont mind DICE but you have lost to Activision the way you behave 😀

        November 7th, 2013 at 3:07 am

EA Owns Dice, therefor pays Dice employees. Dice employees payroll ends with what EA wants, press your deadlines then there is penalties.

In the gaming industry, there are milestones and in companies like EA and Activision, what they are looking at is money. To achieve maximum income, they needed to push ahead of Call of Duty, not back. Dice probably went up to EA and said, “Hey, this game isn’t ready, we need (such and such) time”. Because EA doesn’t want to lose profit, they pushed the product instead of heeding Dice’s advice and released anyways.

In the gaming industry or any really with deadlines and milestones, contracts, owners, decide what they want to do. So, in this case, which makes sense, EA is to blame for forcing their employees “Dice” to release the alpha state game.

          November 20th, 2013 at 6:10 pm

Can’t EA think about LONG TERM gains rather than SHORT TERM gains? You will still make profit that way, bad reps caused by the short term gains will not help.

In the same instance Dice and other developers need to take a stand and say “No! we’re not releasing it on this day because it’s not done!” What is EA or Activision going to do? Fire all of them and release the game themselves? Not likely. These Developers need to grow a spine and strike or something to end this feud of, “It’s not our fault its theirs.” and vice-versa. I personally would stand behind them if they refused to work or strike to take a stand against Fast-tracking. You wouldn’t fast-track building an automobile, or cooking food. Why is it acceptable to make half finished games and release them.

          December 10th, 2013 at 9:58 pm

Really? you think companies like Activision and EA wont fire employees from their production companies? Remember the Activision/Infinity Ward incident? massive lawsuit with all main infinity ward staff leaving who now have set up Respawn and are going to be in the same boat with EA?

You cant win, publishers will skip steps to hit deadlines (unless its Duke Nukem)

      November 7th, 2013 at 5:53 pm

So you think that the publishers of a book, newspaper, magazine, or game don’t have any control in what they publish? How naive.

So how does it happen? (one possibility). From the beginning- I have an awesome Idea for (lets just say) a game. I have no money and no resources so I start making some calls. Eventually I find people who support my idea and want to help bring that idea to fruition. Next is funding, now we need to either get the money we need on our own (almost impossible, or at least was 10years ago) or have a company (a shark if you will) sponsor our project. . . Now that we have the funding to create our vision, it’s off to work. Time goes by and resources are dwindling, our sponsor (shark, if not one in the same like EA) may have money but no distribution/marketing (here comes the publisher). They tell us, “We love your work and would be happy to manufacture, distribute, and advertise your game” (fantastic) “but we don’t like the main character’s outfit, we’d prefer it if he/she looked a little more futuristic since that’s the current fad”. I guess that’s not a big deal, sure. “Wonderful, oh, and we would rather release the game a few weeks earlier than when you originally planned”, I don’t know about all that… “Well, we have competition out there and would like to stay ahead of the curve, if you know what I mean” I’m sorry, I don’t think this is a good… “Well, we feel horrible that we can’t meet your needs, feel free to get another Publisher to spend hundreds of thousands/millions on all the manufacturing, advertisement on TV, Radio, Print, and Internet across multiple countries worldwide…” (now they have you by the juevos)

The repetition continues and the money always wins…

Obviously this isn’t how everything happens for everyone, but rather just an example of how it can/has happened before. The one with the money and the power always have the influence in business, like the producers of a movie, the editors of a paper, or the publishers of anything… Their title is much more complex then “Publisher” would have you believe, that’s good for them because if things go wrong they can always point the finger and blame the ones doing the work. History is written by the victor and that is no different than in politics and business.

DICE isn’t fully without blame, as many supporters as they have, they could put up more of a fight against the shortsighted arrogance of EA. However, 90+% of the blame belongs to EA for doing what they do best, only thinking about themselves. I’m not a DICE fanboy or anything, many developers get screwed in the same way. I’m sure the creators/developers of Battlefield are embarrassed and feel horrid about what has/is happening to something they put their time, effort, and name into. I feel for them, have empathy for their situation and hope them the best.

(question) Don’t you think its odd that release dates are made months in advance, and a few weeks before release, it’s discovered that there are more problems that can be resolved within the time remaining; yet the timeline remains unchanged and stays on schedule anyway?… Who do you think decides that? The people that put thousands of hours into it, or the people sitting in the chairs collecting profits…? This isn’t anything new for EA, they have a past of rushing out games and horrible customer service, and thanks to the internet you can learn all about it in your free time.

DICE didn’t want to rush before Infinity/Treyarch/Raven -But Rather- EA wanted to rush before Activision/Square Enix

    • trabuco9
      November 25th, 2013 at 11:58 am

This, this is why the game was rushed.
      “…you have lost to Activision…”

Why do people keep comparing both franchises?

They were never alike until Bad Company 2.

The game was great and i kept playing and one day, around 3 months after the game was launched i saw people on the net and in the actual game saying “its better than Call of Duty” this is stupidity at its highest level, EA started to compete with Activision since then, thats why the game is rushed ( to be released before Call of Duty and thus get more sales.

Players helped this situation and now we have one of he greatest franchises ever turned into a piece of generic, buggy , unplayable shit.

and Ihave said the exact same thing numerous times. you boys even deleted my last post about it. they are just greedy and wanted to beat COD Ghosts to market. and we all get to suffer for it. Mind you I am not a cod “fanboy” just an old fart that does not view the world through blinders. I will repeat they put out an alpha and called it beta, they put out beta and called it full RTM. ALL because cod is still king and they want to dethrone the king, all fanboy views aside it is FACT. they care about money and being perceived the best FPS there is (meaning BF4, EA and Dice) .

very funny way about going about it wouldn’t you say? screwing over their customers. for a ONE WEEK market advantage, and what has it gotten them? not fans, not a higher place, top of the heap in the FPS world nope, it got them a gazillion pissied offf bf4 fans. great way to be number 1 no?

I said the exact same thing this site thread proves, all along , they are greedy and want to beat cod G to market. way to go EA, you have taken the top spot is the rich greedy boy that wants to be even more rich, at the cost of the very people that put bread on your tables. EA has a HORRID track record that spans YEARS for how they treat their paying customers, so yeah your tops of the greedy f**ks category and at your current rate will NEVER ever be king of the FPS world good going as I’m sure you will lose many customers after your treatment of them and showing just how much you DO NOT CARE about your customers.

but what do I know I’m just an old fart. over and out.

DICE are the developing team not a company but somehow they don’t speak the truth it’s like ea shutting their mouth which is make them bad even it’s like a dirty work , an example like watching a cop letting a thief run front of his sight without doing a thing . i mean if ea didn’t buy dice they would have done bf3 & bf4 in a better way & probably dice will be the developer & the publisher on battlefield games even medal of honor games .

Lets say you work for me in my place of business and you make a sandwich. That sandwich was made wrong, but I still tell you to give it to the customer, now he/she is going to bring it back and complain. So, you’ll be pissed cause I handed out your messed up sandwich and now have to figure out what you did wrong first, then need remake the sandwich before handing it back out to the customer.

Now, that makes it my fault for forcing you to hand out a bad product when in fact I should’ve made you take your time (not too much) and remake the product, therefor making it right the first time.

In this comparison, I’m EA telling Dice to release the BF4 in its current state. Due to that, now you have upset customers, upset and strained Dice employees who now how to double time and fix issues that should’ve been fixed prior to launch, AKA making it right the first time, make it EA’s fault.

Because of this some of their QA team is wasting time on things on critical bugs that could’ve been flushed out prior to launch and instead working on balance or new content, which wouldn’t be as buggy since they would be on schedule, but because of their back log of bugs, it’s possible our expansions could become quite buggy too…. since only part of QA is working on it.

        • NotEnough
          November 25th, 2013 at 2:46 am

You are missing a point: Even tho the sandwich is Sh*t and customer is being treated like sh*t too: he/she comes back and buys that sandwich tomorrow again. Don’t divide blame on EA and DICE like %90-%10 or %35-%65 ; put the customers (US) in the equation with at least %33 blame and we have a deal. We have a saying here that
“If someone makes a mistake and aware of it, it is called “mistake”; if someone makes this mistake twice and aware of it, it is called STUPIDITY.”

ok I will reply to that. your FACT is nothing but your OPINION , just because we feel this way or that way about ANY topic does not make it FACT. so your (BF is better than COD) fact is shot down dead, its only what u think.

the FACT is COD has been the KING for years, the BF series makes up ground at every release but still sells more units and has a larger player base. and for your info I personally like the BF series better as well, but that does not make it better. u dig?

yes it is a FACT that EA is a horrid company that worries more about making mo money then it does its customers, net searches will yield boundless info on said matter. game devopers, lets use dice and trayarch(no I don’t know if that is correctly spelled but I don’t give a rats ass)
they can and do change at times. for instance trayarch has not developed every COD game, infinity ward worked on some. you can look at most long running series and they are mostly are NOT made by same dev team. can you say HALO? bungie jumped the MS ship when it could. no one holds a gun to the dice team and says it HAS to work for EA, people with their skill sets can and DO move on, sometime whole team most time some of team.

Dice and or EA , perhaps BOTH have said their goal is for the BF series to be tops in the FPS world to be the KING of FPS, that is the basis for my comment , about COD being king. that is a FACT from the horse’s mouth not my feelings about it.

I will make you a wager dude, that COD G tops BF4 is sales through this xmas holiday season, being the KING of FPS is based on numbers not our personal opinions. put your money where your mouth is or zip it, FACT MY @SS

Just thought I’d let you know, after disagreements over paychecks for MW2, Infinity Ward no longer has any of the original CoD developers (who now have their own company and are working on their own game: Titanfall).

This is why ever since MW2, CoD has been the same game on the same engine with only minor changes. Treyarch is the only company that has been doing any improvements. Ghosts was a step back from BO2.

BF on the other hand has changed up the formula for the better every game. BF3 introduced Suppression, BF4 made Suppression less crap. BF4 added lean-mechanics, something modern FPS’ really lack. BF3 had mostly horizontal maps, BF4 brought the game to a more vertical scale.

Ghosts on the other hand removed a lot of the fun gamemodes, introduced mostly boring game modes (aside from extinction), changed the intuitive unlock system from BO2 to be over-complicated, and kept with the same old boring map structure that has been around since CoD2 (except CoD2 had better maps). About the only thing Ghosts really brought to the table is the new destructible maps, which they only added because it’s popular in BF.

It still uses the same class system, same unlock system, same almost everything from CoD4:MW. Ever since Activision fired 90% of IW, they have just been milking CoD for what they can. Much like EA milks Madden by putting the same shit out every year with minor changes, yet millions of people pay $60 for the same thing they bought the year prior.

I can’t wait until the REAL Infinity Ward puts out Titanfall, that’s sure to be an actually good game.

yet at the end of the day when BF5 is about to come out all the whiners from the BF4 launch will once again be excited about the release, it seems nobody has such short memories as (BF) gamers. BF3 also had quite some release issues although admittedly not as big as BF4 seems everybody forgot that.

Saying it’s not playable is a huge blanketed overstatement.

I’ve been playing fine – minus the server crashes – since release. There are a lot of people that have been playing fine since release actually. Our servers haven’t crashed since r6 was released.

Both of our 64man server are packed every night and most of the day and have been since release.

Are there issues, yes there are – the QBB silencer bug is hilarious – is it game breaking? Hardly.

And let’s not remember that a lot of client crashes with Ati cards were because if their shit drivers and not the games fault at all.

COD will always be “playable” because they never add anything significantly new to their games. DICE is making/made Battlefield 4, Mirrors Edge 2 and Star Wars Battlefront so while COD makes 1 new game every year DICE has to work on multiple genre games on a reduced period of time.

Not really. COD and BF are FPS games yes, but they have totally different gameplay. One is designed for quick matches where you lonewolf, the other more tactical, designed more towards playing in a group. And BF is no where near a realistic game. If you want realism, get Arma. Now shut up and enjoy your games.

BF3/4 is authentic, it is closer to a Sim but maintains a lot arcade mechanics to make it more accessible to the masses.

          November 8th, 2013 at 7:39 am

lolz… the BF series is nowhere near authentic… closer than CoD, yes, but nonetheless, it is nowhere near authentic… go out and get shot at for a living, then come back and tell us how authentic BF is…

Physics can not be “balanced” the math either adds up, or it is fiction… Ballistics is an exact science, commonly used to jail criminals everyday, and any video game that warps physics to cater to someone’s perception of “balance” is no longer simulating anything.. Dude was right, the closest to simulating the real combat enviornment would be ArmA, but the work in Takedown:Red Sabre is pretty close.. but because they are close to authentic, they are not popular platforms, because authentic is not fun for most people.. in combat, mistakes are deadly, and there are no do-overs, and in combat you don’t just hide behind a car and let your injuries fix themselves.. when people fire a machine gun at you, you hit the dirt, pray that you didn’t get hit, and return fire from cover when able, not stand there and point your gun back and see who’s bullets hit first… when a grenade goes off 10 feet away from you, you aren’t standing back up to shoot anybody, if you are lucky enough to not have taken the full blast, the ringing in your ears is so disorienting that you have problems standing at all, much less aiming your weapon at anything.. so don’t even think of trying to call BF authentic… you have no idea…

    • whaaaxxxxx
      November 6th, 2013 at 5:34 pm

The reality is real war is boring as hell for most, walking around, looking here there, walk some more, one day you see something in the distance, sneek up find out it’s nothing, go home, eat, sit around chewing the fat, go to sleep, wake up, shave, eat again, go someplace, wait for hours, nothing happens, repeat… maybe, just maybe, you’ll get into a fire fight that last 10 minutes or so, in your entire tour.

Video games are more fun and exciting.

Keep telling yourselves that because right now COD Ghosts is working FAR better than Battlefield 4 at the moment. If Battlefield is so good, why push development time just to beat COD Ghosts? Yeah BF4 came out first, but I didn’t get it yet. You know what I got right now? COD Ghosts for 360. I’m going to get BF4 Premium edition when it comes out for PC but in the mean time I’ll play a game that is actually working. GOOD JOB EA! However as I misunderstood him, I made the ENTIRE conversation public.
    Well shame on me right?
There isn’t anything we can do, atleast there is no hard evidence in names etc.
Oh well, carrying on I do feel that this is just a confirmation of what we thought.
It also gives insight in the pain and suffering by these QA guys, makes you wonder, if only BF4 had those little, tiny bit of extra polish, EA wouldn’t have mad constumers, DICE would have had a better reception and, most importantly, we, the gamers would have a BETTER GAME.

Here start the blame game within the companies, and we the customers are still suffering.

Whether it is DICE or EA, please just sort it out yourselves (you guys working in the companies). Your reputation and marketing efforts are doomed because of things your already know but avoided.

We pay the money for a playable game, that’s so simple and yet ignored by some greedy people.

i have been having a good time BF4 so far as i am one of those lucky people that seem to not have as many problems, sure the NET CODE is shit but i just work my way around it………i started playing EA/DICE games since BF3 and i quite liked it but now i am starting too see why so many people say that EA/DICE is such a money hungry company. i pre-ordered the BF4 DELUXE edition and got premium on the day of release but i did not get my 2XP and that to me was a real bummer *little did i know that there was people out there that could not even play the damn game………the only problem that i have now is that i can not play campaign because it is glitched and i can not play on most servers because they crash when they get full.

i feel so sorry for you guys/girls that can not play the game that you payed for.

Just to clear up a few points
    Dice is a games developer.
    EA is a games publisher.

When you have a game that you want to sell, you need to go through a publisher (EA) who will set a specified time on when the product/game is to be release. These things are set in contract.
Why do so many developers sign on with EA ? Because they pay well.
EA makes a good chunk, and so does the developer.

This is why BF2 was a very solid game. Years in to the making, and the devs had time to work with it. BF3 had 5 years, and it’s initial release was stable. It even had a top notch single player mode, which BF4 lacks.

BF4 only 2 years in the making. This is why the single player mode feels like it was just thrown together. Graphics are great, gameplay is alright, and story is horrible. Multiplayer, which is why you buy BF games, is awesome.
It has bugs, lots of bugs.

Plain and simple. EA’s fault for wanting to compete with COD.
In EA’s defense, if it was not for EA pushing Dice, you would not have a BF game this year. I’m all for high quality at launch, but like that letter states; “We have a very demanding culture”. This goes for many countries, not just the U.S.

If EA didnt push Dice to release BF4 prematurely, there would only be one modern warfare FPS game this holiday season. EA was not going to just hold back and watch COD cash in.
If this pattern keeps up, I would not be surprised if we see Bad Company 3 in a year or two.

Even though “EA Dice” is a company with +500 employees and has its HQ in Stockholm, does not mean they don’t have to report to board, right.

Since EA bought all shares in Dice back in 2006, they own and control the company. Dice can’t choose, because they are owned by EA, the chariman of the board is Keith Allan Kallweit.

EA. This right here is why you’ve been voted the worst company in America three years running. You ruin games, you cut too many corners, you press the developers for release dates that are just too soon and You ruin good games by telling developers not to listen to their fans. Mass effect and dragon age being prime examples. This is dice’s game, not your game. If dice decided to go with another publisher,we the fans would gladly follow and take our wallets with us. Ea,just go away. No one will miss you,I promise.

While I can honestly say I have no respect for EA whatsoever (or Activision either), this is just another example of “it’s somebody else’s fault”. While nobody mans up and takes responsibility for this ongoing fiasco, we the gamer, take the hit…

Question: Should EA Delay The Release Of BF4 on the PS4 & xBox One, Until All Of BF4’s Parts and Options Correctly Work For The Customers Of EA And DICE, Who Will Soon Spend A Paycheck To Buy The New Game? And A New Premium Membership? And A New Next-Gen Console? And A New PS+ Membership Just To Play Multiplayer Online? That’s about $560 U.S. To Get Started!

YES Release BF4 No Matter What:______

NO, Delay It’s Release Until It Works:_______

COD Ghosts is hardly a game to compare up next to BF4 on the Next-Gen Consoles….. unless BF4 is majorly Broken On It’s Release Day! COD Ghosts is getting lukewarm reviews at best: FIND THIS REVIEW AT THE IGN WEBSITE

Games Radar Review: “Call of Duty: Ghosts hits all of the Call of Duty bulletpoints: precise controls, refined multiplayer gameplay, and a ton of content to keep you coming back again and again. But it doesn’t take any chances or bring anything significant to the table, especially in the single-player and co-op modes. Never before has a game in the series felt so stagnant. While the shooter is a solid FPS experience all around, it’s missing the creative passion that made its predecessors shine.” FIND THIS REVIEW AT THE GAMESRADAR WEBSITE.

We’ve Now Been Trained… To Expect To Buy Broken Games On Their Release Day…. So…. should this be a surprise to us? Should we expect more from one of the most anticipated games of 2013/14. Has this now become the norm for new console games? “Sell It On Time. Get BF4 Out… Broken Or Not. We Can Fix It Once The Gamers Buy It, Over The Next 5 Or 6 Months!!”

** Would you buy a new car… that mostly worked… but just needed several dealer fixes and updates over the first 5 months after you bought it, to make it run?

** Would you buy a new refrigerator that “almost” kept your food cold and safe to eat?

** Would you buy a new cell phone… that worked half the time you needed it to?

** Would you marry a butt ugly woman/man and hope she/he gets more beautiful with age and lots of plastic surgery?

How and when was this kind of “game marketing” aloud to happen? And who’s fault is it… it’s now becoming the norm? Food for Thought.

Please Cast Your Vote For The POLL above!

    This should be interesting!

8 games in a row last night I got disconnected, I was only having the odd one since launch but the last few days its gotten to the point where I struggle to complete one game without it crashing out to the desktop or I get a wicked freeze where all the sound loops.

So I thought I’d try the campaign, 2nd mission I come across the bane of FPS games……….a ladder…….I go to step on the ladder but instead i just walk off the edge of the roof and plummet to my death.

The missions starts up again and for some reason I’ve started the level outside the front of the hotel I’m supposed to be sneaking to whilst my squad is at the proper start position for the level…….for some reason none of the enemies seem to care that I’m there, every 30 seconds an enemy squad sprints past me, straight through a wall……… I have to walk to the beginining of the level to then go back through it all over again……….

Wouldn’t be so bad but I can reproduce it 100% and I got my mate to try it on his and it did the same.

I was about to get really pissed off and moan about how shit EA is and how disgraceful the netcode is for this game…….then I remembered every single battlefield since the first 1942 has had exactly the same problems.

I agree totally with RedKnight. I would rather them hold back on the release until the game works perfect or at least without the insane errors reported with other systems.. I loved bf3, many hour spent on it and no regrets. Im hoping bf4 will be the same, however seeing the pc issues, i don’t like the sound of it. It is the only game i have reserved and plan to buy day 1 of the ps4, but i would still like a finished game rather than a bug infected piece of crap.

i have no idea what is up with EA besides being greedy it seems, but i wish they would go back to focusing on being a GOOD company to deal with. EA has been around for very longtime, but they were never this forceful with getting games out. Its ruining good game creators. There are many games from EA i have never even looked at because they royally screwed them up. But hey, in the end, they make it that much easier for me what to buy and its not an alternative EA game.

You know what really has me rattled over all of this? Its the fact that EA/DICE basically took liberties on our loyalty to a brand/product that most of us have come to love.

What it comes down to is simply the fact that EA/DICE did not care enough about its BF fan base to make sure that the product was stable enough to launch, and by stable I am merely speaking of the ability too play the game without constant crashes. The other things such as glitches could have been worked on and patched after release. Instead we were given a product that fails to even live up to that spectrum of play.

I can accept the Net Code (a little), its horribly broken but for the game to be released and not playable on a consistent basis is ridiculous! EA/DICE basically said behind closed doors, “They’ll buy it no matter what, lets see if we can dip into the CoD fan base and make a monetary killing.

Bottom Line – They failed to respect each and every BF player with this Dumpster Fire and they need to hear it and hear it loud. Pass it on, using whatever means necessary, Social Media, Email, Text. The way to hurt a company is to tell 10 people because they tell 10 more and so on. Stop allowing companies to take advantage of you, your opinion matters! Make it known!

Sad, just sad. Battlefield is a completely different game to COD and can easily stand up on its own in sales against it without needing to cop out by releasing an unfinished product. As it stands COD has been pretty much universally panned as people have finally woke up and realized Activision have lazily slapped on a new coat of paint (and not a very pretty one at that) to the same game and charged them for it. If EA had just waited they could have scooped up all the disenfranchised COD players into the beautiful AAA wargame title that BF4 is but one that ACTUALLY WORKED!

    • Toxixx

I wish EA would piss off and stop ruining classic games with their thirst for money.

Let dice make the game their way. Let Dice make their own deadlines. LET DICE DO IT PROPERLY AND YOU WILL MAKE MORE MONEY IN THE LONG RUN, EA.

Being a week before Ghosts in my opinion was useless. They should have waited and let everyone see the current downfall of Ghosts and could have marketed around that flaw instead.

As a former EA employee who spent over 8 years in QA, who later earned my B.S. in computer science, and then gtfo, let me tell you, there are 2 sides to QA:

-very good, competent, intelligent, passionate, gameplay testers, that find a lot of bugs, and get paid less than $33,000 per year, and the bugs they file get overlooked because some pompous producer or oblivious Tech Director or Project Manager who wants to meet the deadline to impress some VP’s and CO’s just so they can get their bonus; so QA’s efforts and bug finds are often over looked.

    but then you have…

-lazy, drug habit, traitorous, unambitious, unintelligent, NDA breaking, friend with all the QA managers and leads who always gets his or hers (oh girls get a lot of perks at EA!, more than guys), who turn to a site like a Reddit to moan and complain because they don’t have the dedication, portfolio, or disciplining to learning and do more to move up in the company, so they vent to Reddit or other resources who bad the game is instead of taking pride, responsibility and initiative to be a part of making a better game.

I left EA because it’s like a monster that wants more food, more food! It can never be satisfied and it will never be improved. It’s too big for itself and soon that will show.

For the record, there are 2 QA teams. Read the credits in the (any) game and you’ll see that. It doesn’t matter if Dev or EA QA found the bugs, if management wants it shipped, as they “ship it”

  26. Game Froze While Reading This
    November 11th, 2013 at 12:36 pm

No Joke, I’m literally reading about how this game got rushed out, and guess what… Froze during loading.

I don’t wanna buy COD because of the crap games they make, pushing a new game with expansions every single year is INSANE. I cannot believe that EA is trying to match that.

Fans of BF series waited 10 years for BF3, and it was worth it!
Why the rush to BF4? money money money. and we all bought it.

In EA’s eyes, they’re still winning.

  27. Joe
    November 13th, 2013 at 6:19 am

The bottom line is that EA is a plague on the game industry, a parasite.

This series is mad popular. Not only can it sell without a large publisher to promote it at this point, but it has no competition with COD Ghosts and this should not even have been considered a factor.

EA missed the mark again with their “analysis” of market conditions that created this pointless need to push the game through QA. Battlefield was going to sell, any idiot can see that. A publisher in an ivory office on the other hand that does not even play the game would see COD as huge competition indeed.

This just makes me mad. A talented team like DICE makes a great game and EA gets to slap their name on it and even screw up the quality of the product with all sorts of misinformed decision making.

EA consistently oversteps their bounds when publishing a title and the title suffers for it. Whether it’s insisting that all cars in the game “drift handle” and squeal insufferably to capture the “wildly popular drift audience”, or that Deadspace 3 be “more mainstream” even though it’s not for a mainstream audience otherwise it’s not deadspace anymore – AND was already wildly popular anyways, the damage caused by EA can be seen lurking behind every title they publish no matter how talented the people actually doing the work are.

    November 14th, 2013 at 7:38 am

The worst thing that ever happened to Dice was the acquisition of Dice by EA in 2006. I bet they’ve regretted it ever since. It also serves them right. They should have never gone into direct competition with CoD. That would have prevented the CoD clone that is Battlefield 3 and 4.

Same Old Shit – Different Day!

This happened with BF2 and BF3 and some other EA titles as well…they are in it for the money…. totally understandable that a company needs to make money, but… many players are they going to loose to the opposition, because the opposition’s game actually work?

I applied for a position once at EA in the UK……I am so glad I did not take it! I think I would have lost my love for gaming!

EA….stop f****g it up for true blue blood veteran players that actually enjoy and love Battlefield 4 please! If the game is not ready to release – DON’T f******g release it!! You had a chance to make sure that when the title is released, that it will provide many hours of fragging fun for all the true blue blood veterans of the BF series! You had Public Beta testing to iron out all little problems and glitches BEFORE live release…. and yet now you have once again dragged your name through the mud as a company!

To all future companies out there, if EA offers to buy out and back your game….give em the finger!!! I for one will gladly wait to get a working title then a unplayable title that frustrates the crap out of me!

What people seem to miss and which conveniently isn’t asked is WHERE was the DICE Project manager for BF4……. was it a secret when the game was scheduled to be released? NO…….. Doesn’t ANY and EVERY DICE product come out a week prior to its COD counterpart? YES…… So it was no secret and no big surprise when this title was to hit the market….. while I’m sure EA pushed to meet the release date that DICE agreed to, the failure to have a working product falls SQUARELY on DICE’s shoulders; the deadline was known and has been known for at LEAST 3 years; yet they failed yet again to properly plan and/or properly execute that plan to meet their agreed upon deadline…… so while EA shoulders some blame for making DICE release what they had…. DICE also should accept blame for PISS POOR PLANNING

Honestly, I’m so disappointed I doubt I’ll buy another EA or DICE game. I have an xbox one and after dropping 500 on that (totally worth it btw) I had $$ for ONE game. I went BF4. How dumb of me. I was literally standing in line and thought about it for a minute, as EA had the same BS issues with BF3. I said to myself….nah, no way they’d have the same problems as before, they aren’t that stupid. This clown tester even upsets me because he’s talking about general bugs with the game, no third person in a jet…YOU KNOW WHAT I’D GIVE TO HAVE THAT PROBLEM RIGHT NOW? Here’s a better question for that DICE jackass: “When did you get so low on time that you couldn’t check to see if the servers worked?” DECEMBER 6th and I still can’t even LOOK at online play “Could not connect to EA server”…that’s what you should call your game. EA, DICE, the battlefield franchise can all go spit as far as I’m concerned. I don’t give a shit about their excuses at this point. The product is garbage, total trash. It’s just a $60 weed plate at this point. That’s right, EA/DICE, your game is only good for breaking up bud on at this point, which I can’t even afford right now because I bought your bad game.

  44. Roger
    December 22nd, 2013 at 3:35 pm

Reread the message from the beginning. THIS is first on the list and is the problem not EA!

“First we have a company culture that always want more and more in the game until the very end of the project which put an enormous strain on QA to test everything.”

Unless you have a milestone that prohibits additions after that specific date you might end up in this situation. This date should be so the open Beta was run with ‘final’ code to find and fix bugs.

BUT that would leave most artists / programmers idling. Put them in another project or they will come up with great new cool ideas (Gamers also like new features don’t we?). Actually everyone likes new cool ideas (but QA who do not like “late” new cool ideas), and this idea doesn’t really change anything…
So even if QA won’t have time to test it – it is safe to add…

On the other hand, these features that crept in late – now the game is quite OK. If they had not crept in we would have had to wait for them to BF5…

started with BF3 when it came out. i was hesitant on getting BF4 so i waiting the day after xmas and cant regret it enough. I really feel like ive been tricked here. this poor excuse for a battlefield will make me stay clear from more EA titles i think. the bugs, freezing, sound glitches, not saving in campaign or multiplayer shows a pattern of a game that started as DLC and the outcome is this. feel like i paid to test a game in pre-beta phase. wtf.

It’s 2017 and the game is still an “unfun” experience with way to many “wtf” moments in every gameplay. I went to BF simply because COD just got to “spacey” but a while with the BF franchise and I realized COD wasn’t as bad as I thought. As far as customers being the problem that has an aura of truth but you simply won’t honestly know what you got unless you purchase the game and try it out yourself. I did and even when KD was way to the good the “mis-steps” in the software, servers, or whatever just made the entire gameplay seem garbage. Well lesson learned…
