EA facing another class-action lawsuit over Battlefield 4

Yet another law firm is looking to sue EA over Battlefield 4, alleging that EA misled investors about the condition of the game.

Battlefield 4 class action lawsuit

A few days ago we reported that EA is facing a class-action lawsuit over Battlefield 4, for allegedly misleading investors over the condition of Battlefield 4. Just days before the game was released, several EA executives offloaded almost $5 million in EA stock.

Now another law firm, Bower Piven, has filed the same class-action lawsuit, and they’re seeking for an EA investor that has lost at least $200,000 on EA stock purchased over the past few months. EA’s shares have been very volatile lately, due to the problems of Battlefield 4.

There’s no denying that all the problems that Battlefield 4 launched with have resulted in lost sales. The game was unplayable when it launched, and only now, after almost two months and a dozen patches, can it actually be played. Still, it’s far from perfect.

However, it seems that these lawsuits piling up are from lawyers looking to make a quick buck on the back of EA’s troubles. And for the gamer, the lawsuits and the result of them won’t have any effect — the lawsuits are from investors who feel misled by EA.

EA has previously said that they will fight every lawsuit in court and they called them “meritless”.

Sharing is caring!

I’ve been playing on xbox 360 and after all the patches i rarely freeze.
DICE, If you actually read this post, i thank you for the hard work so far as i know how complex this game is. It’s not too late to save your good name and find a new publisher that doesn’t rush buggy, unfinished products out the door. I think finding a better publisher who respects the consumers, developers, and the game would reflect well in sales and opinions.

I wish they would do that. But unfortunately they can’t because EA bought DICE so they really can’t change

Large Companies rarely ever make mistakes when it comes to large products coming out the door, and I think that there is more to this BF4 scandal that meets the eye. First of all it is confirmed that some of the EA executives sold 5 million in stock the day before BF4 was released. On the outside this may look like illegal activity that the EA executives knew that the game was unready and was going to suck. But since it is clear that they knew the stock would plummet, why wouldn’t they wait a little longer to fix the game. Many people think that it was to rack in the 7th and 8th profits running cross platform and to beat out call of duty.
However I think that EA did this for a different reason, a long term investment. With the 5 million that they sold off they could reinvest back into their company when stocks were the lowest to buy even more shares. Generally speaking when they sold their share it was valued at 28 $, however after the announcement of halting their games it dropped to 23 $. If the reinvested now they would raise their share in the company by 18%.
The biggest question now is why EA executives would want to own more of their publicly traded company. Well I think that it’s because they see a huge potential for the next generation of gaming. With releases like mirrors edge 2 and battlefront 3 EA is looking at being the dominant publisher of the next gen, as seen in the hostilities between Activision’s call of duty and EA’s battlefield.
This isn’t the first time business practices like this have occurred. This textbook example of lying to investors dates all the way back to the Napoleonic era when Nathaniel Rothschild lied to British investors about the outcome of the Battle of Waterloo, and bought all of the stock when the fire sale ensued. In one night he became the richest man in England, just throwing caution to the wind.

Well I play on 360 and my system crashes once an hour in BF4. Why do you feel bad for these people? They make more money than most of us and their product sucks. Get real, they don’t need your sympathy.

Maybe you rarely freeze, but mine freezes several times an hour. I also go into a game with zero stats or a profile and do not always notice until I switch weapons and there are none. Also hit markers are terribly lopsided and the lag on the servers is awful, not to mention losing connection all together.

I’m with mike jones…no more ea games for this household and I will gladly tell anyone bf4 blows! I can’t believe they put a half ass game on the shelf…so much for the integrity of that company and chicken shit stock holders who dumped stock just before the launch. This game is more fun as target practice out at the farm! Thanks jackasses!!!

Really? Because on the PC it crashes twice an hour, has constant lag, rubberbanding, Windows 8 is unsupported, Windows 8.1 is unsupported, has DirectX errors, crashes randomly as well.

      Screw EA

While it was not perfect, Battlefield 4 was not “unplayable” at launch. I have a mid-range pc, and it ran Battlefield 4 pretty decently. In-fact, almost all of the people that I know who played BF4 at launch only suffered from occasional crashing.

On the contrary, they should not have released the game in the condition it was in, and for that they should be punished. However, I do not think that the game was unplayable, just buggy. The only game-breaking glitch that ever occurred to me was a random crash here or there. Server crashes were a bit more common, but it still didn’t mean I couldn’t play the game…

Glitches like sound loss and 2x damage on random shots were bugs that should have been fixed during beta, so it definitely was released prematurely. But for it to be considered “unplayable”, I would expect several things: constant crashing EVERY time I started joining a server, extremely low FPS, and unbearable bugs in the level design/gameplay. I don’t think that a glitch in the sound or an infrequent crash classifies the game as unplayable though.

      December 22nd, 2013 at 1:42 am

Yeah,i could always play 90% of the time and i play lots (except when origin needed to be resintalled, which is not a battlefield issue, but an origin issue)… i only had a crash once an hour on average at the start. now it seems stable…

lots of other smaller issues though… l like one side of a team doing 3x the damage another team can make sometimes… and no one being able to pickup a bomb once its dropped…

actually at this point, while things appear to work well, i think Battlefield is not a real proper FPS game at the moment, since who shot first with the better gun has no outcome on who wins.

That might’ve been the case for you, but some of us could only play on half the maps without getting freezes, and would randomly drop out at the report screen. there were glitches and bugs bad enough that the game was unplayable unless you restricted yourself to only 2-3 maps.

      December 22nd, 2013 at 2:29 am

well to tell the truth, i did not crash at all during the BETA and and i only started to have a few crashes once the game had been released.

i spent over $100 on this game and i did expect to have a few crashes and alot of bugs being that it is EA that chose the release date.
i spent $89 on the deluxe edition and $60 on the premium…… -_-
      and what do i get?
a game that has only crashed twice and i have lost my saves 3-4 times other than the terrible netcode that is still SH*T.

the game was not finished at all and EA new it but they were so engaged in the idea of beating COD: Ghosts to the market that they did not think that it was not of such a big issue to deal with as a few small patches should fix it but i guess that they will have to learn the hard way for that lesson to learnt.

if anyone is still having trouble with the game and wants to have some PC specs that are known to work they are:

      GPU: AMD HD7770
      CPU: FX6300
      power supply: XFX 550W PRO
      case: phantom 410 ~good cooling
      RAM: dragonram 4GB
      motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-MLXV2

planing to upgrade to 8GB of RAM, new motherboard water-cooling and R9 280X

i will update my info when i upgrade my PC 🙂

long over due for this company to be held accountable not only to the investors but also the consumer, I myself am gigs gusted at the lack of playability of BF4. Still two months after launch and the thing is a total mess, lagging servers just about every time I try to play, glitches abound every map, the lack of interest by EA to address the hacking issues not to mention many many other problems and the garbage net code dished up once again, come on EA sort this out or I guarantee I won’t be buying another title from you as won’t many thousands or other gamers… lift your game

“And for the gamer, the lawsuits and the result of them won’t have any effect — the lawsuits are from investors who feel misled by EA.”

I think and certainly hope that the above is NOT true. If the result of the lawsuit is that EA is found to have mislead “the investors” and is obligated to pay those investors, for sure they will have to change their ways.

If management do not take measures to improve, for sure the shareholders will have to act in the best interest of the company and change management. That WILL have an effect for all stakeholders – also customers. Not an immediate one, but for sure future games will have be tested more thoroughly before being released.

I remember when EA bought DICE back in 2005 and when they actually pushed the game release back to 4-6 months due to financial situations. This push back gave DICE needed time to fix the game.

Unfortunately EA will bring BF to ground by adopting the business model Activision used for COD (sorry for mentioning on this post), it’s smart but no benefit to the players. I hope another competitor with a similar game to BF comes through (not Arma 3).

I just want my money back. After the China Rising update I have not been able to play at all. Complete freeze on first map, every time and I get a system recovery screen. This game will never see the inside of my PS3 again. Over $100 spent (with Premium) and I get nothing for it, thanks EA/Origin/DICE.

Well, for all you players saying that the game is playable, congrats, but that’s NOT the case for many players, including myself. I purchased this game when it shipped with my PS4 on November 14. Today is December 28, and I STILL CAN NOT PLAY IT!!! IT FREEZES IN CAMPAIGN MODE. IT GIVES ME CORRUPT DATA FILES. I CAN”T FIND SERVERS. THE GAME IS GARBAGE!!! I for one would LOVE to join a class action lawsuit on the consumer side of affairs, because it is clear that this is a product that is not tested prior to release and is still not working! Don’t believe me? I’ll be posting a youtube video to prove it. I played it again today, but no, after SEVEN WEEKS it froze again.

Meanwhile, 4 other PS4 games have given me no problem whatsoever. EA/DICE, you’ll never see a penny from me again on any game. ever.

Well I may have got the game later, but I play on the 360 and it works fine, but I have crashed the game while loading up a conquest match which decides to corrupt data so I can no longer re complete missions for accomplishments, other than that the game is amazing and considering I am usually a cod player I believe that ghosts is awful and it may run consistently but battlefield is 50X better.

buggiest game of all time. I despise it with all my heart. it’s not about crashes,
mine rarely crashed, it’s the game play experience. many games struggle with lag but this one is on a different scale. it’s not the lag that
makes it horrible it’s the amount of problems and not-user-friendliness that make it horrible, a chore. I am level 50 and hated it all the way up. why do I play you may ask? while I am hooked. I played all CoD and this is my first bf4. very disappointed. if I can ever pay someone to further this lawsuit I’d throw a couple of hundreds. EA refused to refund me. I was unable to join any games for a whole week due to issues.

I love BF but BF3 had issues and now with BF4 I play 3 games and freeze my system. I played on another friends system with in the first 2 matches it froze. Today I was killed by a guy using a SRAW but he shot me with a rifle another was sliding all over the map on his knees. I have recently shot a guy from about 6′ in the back with no hits and have seen several times where hit markers never show up. I love the game but I am very pissed that it’s been almost unplayable for me on PS3. I would say just about 3 games maybe and I freeze same with others I know it’s a damn joke.

  25. Very Dissatisfied
    February 28th, 2014 at 1:30 am

I agree, A consumer class action suit should be started for this. If it wins BF4 should become freeware for whomever wants to deal with all these issues and the paying customers should all get a full refund plus interest!! Even though I have not faced the crashing issues as most, the gameplay is still terrible after 4 months. They needed another year on development at least. I will never be purchasing anything from EA in the future, I lost all confidence in this company. So when are the EA execs getting their pink slips?

  26. Frank Stein
    March 5th, 2014 at 7:32 am

Battlefield 4 (BF4) is THE worst game I have ever played when it comes to technical problems. I bought the game In late December 2013 and I believe the game came out in late October 2013. Here we are in early March 2014 and I’ve had nothing but problems with the game. I’ve never had a single game session with out issues. Never.

The updates that have been issued for the game only seem to introduce more problems and I can’t remember one issue i’ve had being resolved by them.

My xbox locking up while playing the game, no sound when starting a new game for what seems like 15-13 seconds (haven’t timed it), weird visual artifacts, no servers showing up in the server list, etc.

This game was obviously not ready when it was shipped. I’ve heard reports that it cost over 200 million to make BF4 but the game made over 800 million in sales in a few days after launch, not to mention whatever they made from premium members (myself included) that paid the extra $50 fee. So…EA/Dice/whoever got what seems to be a big pay day with BF4 and yet the customers, the ones that GAVE them this big payday, are stuck with a broken game for months and months now.

People paid $60+ for this game and premium members paid an extra $50. Over $110 for this broken product that just frustrates and angers it’s users. EA needs to take responsibility for this and refund customer money.

I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone. Ever.

  27. Craig
    May 24th, 2014 at 7:44 am

I think it’s up to the gamers in the towns of where these EA/Dice employees work,,and definately the programers,,to find out their names and take action. Walk up to them on the street and slap them in front of their families and let them know how immoral they are. Choke them out lol. Seriously, walk up to one, choke with left, slap with right(but be polite and ask if they would like it “open hand” or “back hand”. How can a person/s be so book smart but can’t even do their job and give real value to details. “bang~bang” with a tiny hand gun, and a man goes down,,,5~7 BANG~BANG with a tank,,,dude’s still running. This game is a joke and everyone involved should be out of a job.
