Battlefield 4 has more players on PS4 than on PC

The PlayStation 4 has become the leading platform for the game.

The Battlefield series started on the PC and has always been considered a PC title — after all, the best versions of the games were always found on PC, especially when it came to visuals.

But the new console generation is giving some serious competition to PC. According to P-Stats Network, who track Battlefield 4 player numbers across all platforms, the PlayStation 4 has been the leading BF4 platform for the past several months.

As the graph above shows, the PC was the clear leader when the game launched, but PC players steadily left the game, and over the past few months, the PS4 has been the platform with the most active players.

One big reason for this could be that the PC version has been so unstable, so buggy and laggy since launch, that PC gamers have simply given up on the game. While the game has had its issues on consoles as well, PC players seem to be the ones hardest hit.

DICE is currently working on a new Battlefield 4 patch which should be released sometime early next month on all platforms.

More like that is THE reason.

I disagree. The game has some problems but these does not even affect everyone and the bigger ones are already solved. I seriously doubt that this would affect the core players. Also the PS4 version has it’s problems too and as a game it’s inferior. It’s just that currently, consoles are having a real drought and on PC there are so much more games to play. People are just moving on.

No. There is more variety on consoles. According to steam stats only 10 of users are even capable of running the game at settings higher then what consoles produce, so technically the game is inferior on PC>

I’m not sure how this is relevant to the topic. But Yes, it was only released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It is because the PS4 is so successful and has sold millions of consoles in record time.

Yeh!!! no it’s because PC gamers got another shitty low quality buggy console port. Most PC gamers are fed up with EA. But also Consoles can not handle what PC’s can, my laptop is faster than both consoles put together

I definitely don’t believe that… Unless it is an extremely high end laptop then you are exaggerating.

Considering how awful this game is are we surprised? Neither new console has a ton of games yet they are just starting to pick up steam so people are still playing launch titles especially a big multiplayer one.

PC gamers have many more much better choices right now. Chances are the battlefield series will never recover its user base on PC. Hopefully nobody at all buys the next one. EA needs to be taught that they can’t screw over their fans and release a game that’s broken and spend the next entire year putting Band-Aids on it. Vote with your wallet

Console sales of BF3 crushed PC sales and those consoles had tons of games (PS3/360, making the PS4 has no games a invalid argument.

Console games are vastly cheaper to develop, test and support on consoles that have fixed OS, drivers, hardware for every single user. Developers are in this to make money in the end. The console model is much more profitable.

Still has issues on PC and will have issues for a while. Even after the next patch. I play it at 3840 x 2160 (4K) and looks fantastic but can’t deal with the bad netcode, hit detection and lame players that are leftover.

i play on the PC and i have no problems at all…… (sapphire R9 290 vapor-X helps)

but the reason why i have stopped playing and the reason why i think that other players have stopped playing is that everyone is at max level and has everything…….i unlocked everything for the game about 4 months after launch and i just waited for DLC to come out to finish unlocking everything for them

as for me though…..i’m waiting for GTA5 to come to PC not Hardline!!!

So what? Its natural that $400 game and media system have more players, its new and they have around 10-20 games to chose from, where on PC people have thousands upon thousands. Also PC version is incredibly buggy and bad, its a surprise how many people still play even today.

Would be interesting to see what the Xbox One numbers are now that EA Access has gone live. I didn’t buy BF4 but I know play it on Xbox One because it was ‘Free’ with EA Access.

The Xbox One numbers are pretty close to the ps4 numbers considering the install base… so it might even be higher on Xbox One now!!!

Would be interesting to get the above stats updated with an EA Access line drawn through it.

What killed BF4? Bugs. DLC split the community, thinning out players on every server each time a new DLC was launched. Finally the Hardline demo assured BF4 players that DICE had moved on and that nothing would get better, so they moved on – after all there are better things available.
The PS4 is the best of the consoles current generation, so it’s unsurprising they’ve overtaken the PC on this title.
After 12 years of buying and playing the BattleField games and their many mods (now killed by greed), this was the last title in the franchise I will buy.

PC player. I bought it on release. I have given up on the game being fixed. I sold my PC as this was the only game I needed my PC for at the time. I won’t be returning and I won’t be buying any new Battlefield games in future.

Less games to play on ps4. Lol not hard to figure that one out.. a platform with far more games has less ppl in one game than a platform with less gaming options..

BF3 sold way more on the PS3/360 than it did on the PC. Something like 5 to 1 or greater.

Any big game, especially shooters, kill on the consoles and crush PC sales. Look at Call of Duty which also was a PC only game when it started, for a couple of versions I think before it moved to consoles as well.

80% of gamers just want to sit down and play a game and consoles are good enough (graphics etc) and are hassle free for he average gamer.

Yes the other 20% like to dick with their PC like they are re-building some classic muscle car. They run bunch marks more than the play games, or tweak the lights in their case or brag about their 1000 watt power supply….you know “Master Race” more like “Master-Bate”

what you seem to fail at getting is what you are talking about… the person that you replied to was just talking about how there are far less games out there for consoles than PC and so more people are playing other games than the one you want to play…

another thing that you failed at is that PC is the “master-race” and will be forever the best, there are far more games (a few hundred thousand more) and PC gamers get the best that could come out of a game (in this case BF4). Ok yes, PC’s can cost alot and yes, it does make you a bit egocentric but what are you really getting out of your PS3? i mean really? a few games maybe and thats about all… (and yes i do know that consoles can do a few more things than just play games) but what can a PC do? play games, make YouTube videos, google your life away, ect. so really… PC is the master race and can never be overtaken but if you must be so proud over your $400 machine that can do less than 6% of what a PC can do then sure, live under a rock for the rest of your life and please stay there as nobody wants to hear you talk about consoles compared to PC’s as they are vastly over-run by the power of “The Master Race”.

yes, people that have a good gaming PC do end up “tweeking” their case lights and adding more RAM but is that really a bad thing? is having a hobby a bad thing now? i have a $2,750 gaming PC that i built and i am very proud of it with all its cool lights and silent water-cooled fans but i do not have to brag about it… not everyone is like that its just that those are the ones that you hear from the most and so that is the reason why you think that… i spend about 1hour max each month cleaning out my case and fans but that is not because i am madly in love with my PC… i lust like to take care of my things, is that also a bad thing?

and if you want to say that PC’s are stupid because of price…you have to buy a whole new console every 2-3 years and then have to re-buy the games that you have… where as on PC we have millions of games and most of them go on steam for a few bucks and we never have to buy them again…

i understand if you have only played on console before and have never had a good PC to play on but really mate, just try it and see the other side before you start trying to hammer it down or just shut up and enjoy your rock house.

and for the record…a 1000W power supply is not much to brag about… having a 1000W PSU means that you have so many high end parts that you have to give it more power… but that means a bigger power bill 🙂

(PS4 is better than XBOX 1 though)

          Learn to read.

His point fewer games over all on the PS4, hence BF4 on the PS4 is more popular than it is on the PC because there is nothing else to play on the PS4

My point is that when BF3 came out it sold something like 10 million on the PS3/360 vs about 1 million on the PC (to lazy to look up the exact numbers) and yet there were hundreds of games on the PS3/360.

His theory does not hold water.

Consoles sell WAY more games when it comes to the to 20-50 most popular games when the are released for all platforms.

          • flamingfirewolf
            September 7th, 2014 at 6:46 pm

…try again…. if you said that it was 5-1 then it would be 10 mill-2 mill…do you even MATH? xD lol

anyway… i was more addressing your point about “the master race” (if you didint notice that then you need to learn how to read (go to for more info on that)

to the fact that on PC, you get to keep all the games that you buy and on console you have to re-buy it. ok lets just say that you have a 360 and a PS4, you go and buy it for both consoles because you want to be able to play with all your friends that have different consoles. that is 2 copies so far… and then the new Xbox1 comes out and then you buy it for that to play with friends that got it for that… that is now 3 copies for 1 person that is on console… where as a PC player buys one copy and plays it at his house, his friends house and then his dads house (lets just say his parents are divorced) ok so that is 1 copy for one person in multiple places. that is why there are less copies bought on PC.

and as for COD… on console you get “aim assist” so why not play on a platform that makes you look good when you’re not? when i was playing BF3 and COD on console i thought that i was good at it, that was until i played on PC and found out that consoles have “aim assist”

anyway… this thread is about the amount of players still playing BF4 not sales…

here are some reasons why there might be more players on console than PC…

1-everyone has unlocked everything for PC
2-more games to play on PC and so people have moved on
3-consoles have “aim assist” and so it makes them look like pros
4-console gamers still think that BF4 is the best game ever
5-the mom’s for the 9-12 kids that play on console have just bought BF4 for their Birthday!
6-not much to do on console so they may as well play something…

you see….so many common sense answers for the reason behind more players on console…

(and yes, there are 9-12 kids that play on PC but not as many because they need at least some skill to do anything rather than on console with their “aim assist”

and look below at “timmy’s” comment…that is another reason why PC players have given up on BF4

another thing that i must mention… if BF4 is such a SH*T game… why are you bragging that there are more players on console? if you still play because you think that it is the best game then you have a problem… i play because i have everything unlocked and i like to troll around with friends… why do you still play?

if you like BF3 so much then why are you not playing that?
if you had any common sense then you would know that BF4 is nothing compared to BF3. i still play BF3 every now-and-again but FB4 is not worth going back to to even look at its pretty graphics.

This guys comments reeks of elitism, which goes hand in hand with MOST pc gamers.
jerks who think they are gods because their PC is great.

“people that have a good gaming PC do end up “tweeking” their case lights and adding more RAM but is that really a bad thing? is having a hobby a bad thing now? i have a $2,750 gaming PC that i built and i am very proud of it with all its cool lights and silent water-cooled fans but i do not have to brag about it”

What the F did you just do there then, you could have said “I have a good gaming pc”

The real problem with PC games are that in every game you have hundreds of eastern Europeanhackers playing on really old PC or Russian hackers and EVERY first person shooter has been regularly hacked since release, fact!
I also have a good gaming PC and plan to get a PS4 but i wouldnt play another FPS on PC as if the hackers was not enough once you get into the game you realise the amount of teaking to graphics and your internet you have to do in order to make it a fair contest with all the other “Pro Gamers” is no fun at all.

Still, i have to say i will always have a gaming PC for games like CIV5 football manager etc that never get a good version on a console.

OP stop being such a moody a hole and flaming people for stating an opinion, you do realize that is another bad trate of PC gamers? they always have to be complete a holes, even on forums, its the depression you get from gaming too much.

          • flamingfirewolf
            September 15th, 2014 at 6:59 pm

by saying “i have a good gaming PC” means nothing nor does it have anything to do with bragging.
noting the price of my PC was more for the people that know what i am talking about (people that do not live under a rock) by just suggesting my price i am giving people the rough idea of what i have whereas if i was to brag…

            GPU:Sapphire R9 290 VAPOR-X -water cooled
            CPU:FX 8350
            CASE: Phantom 410 -black
MB: -lol i dont even know my MB
            cooling: 3 BitFenix red LED
            CPU cooling: H100i -water cooling
            PSU: XFX 850W GOLD+
            RAM: 2x 4GB Dragon ram
+other little things like wireless cards and sound cards

see….. now that is called bragging but you would have no idea what i had for that $2,750 if i didn’t just tell you eh?

a $2,750 gaming PC is good but not as good compared to most PC gamers

if you even finished high school you might know that i was not aiming at how good my PC is but rather that some people (like myself) build PCs for a hobby….. maybe you should get a hobby rather than touching yourself at night

oh and BTW…. there are more hackers on PC because there are more games but the hackers on consoles are unbeatable. i have not run into a hacker for some time now on PC and the last time was in RUST where some guy had a fly and unlimited ammo hack but i could still kill him.
whereas i myself have had hacks on console…. i didn’t even mean too…. some guy wanted me to join his clan and before i knew it i had a fly, unlimited ammo, invincible, aimbot hack….. and that was just for joining a match!!!…. i was unbeatable and all i had to do was click a button to kill a whole team!!! -i played with the hacks for one round and then never went back to consoles again- *too easy and too unbeatable* so don’t tell me that there are no hackers on console because i have been one myself and they are by far easier to get.

plz go to a forum that talks about hackers and PC gamers…..not on a sales forum as this is starting to get way off topic…

            thanks 🙂

I think it’s because of the heavier PC requirements that came with a “next gen” BF4 making it even less accessible on PC unless you have the money to spend on a New BF game and a new GPU

In South Africa we only have local servers for PC and I think the reason was they didn’t acknowledge the console sector as a market. If only I could get SA analysis. I could start a petition

There was a ton of games to play on the PS3/360 when sales of BF3 on those consoles FAR outpaced PC sales.

No worries if Destiny is only half the bug fest that BF4 was it will be the number one PS4 game in a matter of weeks.

Battlefield was a community on PC. EA has crushed the community.. it started with their BF3 Premium. In BF4 they messed with servers by adding Official and Ranked settings. Not to mention it was so unstable for allot of people, and the bad nets. They listen so well to the community that their next release is a cops and robber game?!

BF4 was running better last year (when second assault came out) than now after many patches on PC, half of PC players stopped playing it 4 good and another half returned to BF3 witch is still much better game. BF4 have bad netcode, fast tk, buggy hitboxes….etc and what they expect us to be theirs alfa texters for ever and download multiple patches that do nothing…
