EA: Battlefield had 11 million active players in Q1, led by BF4

Thanks to free expansions.

During EA’s recent quarterly earnings call with analysts, the publisher revealed that the Battlefield franchise did very well during the (fiscal) first quarter, where there were over 11 million active players.

Of the 11 million players, the majority were playing Battlefield 4. EA has consistently supported the game since its release, almost three years ago. Lately, they have been releasing free expansions to all players.

During the same earnings call, EA said that they expect the upcoming Battlefield 1 to sell 15 million units. This is far less than Battlefield 4, which was sold over 20 million units to date.

The most recent free DLC was China Rising — in fact, it’s still free to download for a few more days (until August 9th).

BF1 would sell less as they’re not selling it on the old consoles.

Interestingly, PSN had some new terms and conditions to accept recently – which if my spidey sense is correct after reading the fine print – may mean they will be cutting off support/servers for PS3 in a while to push people onto the subscription service with the PS4.

With the poor PSN reliability, it would be better to go to PC if that was the case.
