Battlefield 4 classes

There are four Battlefield 4 classes just like in previous games in the series. The four Battlefield 4 classes are Assault, Engineer, Recon, and Support. Each class (or “kit”) has its own unique abilities, weapons, and equipment. However, weapons and gadgets are shared between all classes. Each class will have their own weapons, based on the Battlefield 4 factions (US and Russia).

Battlefield 4 classesEach of the classes in Battlefield 4 has its own primary weapon and gadget. Each class can unlock additional accessories for their weapons, unlock additional, class-specific Battlefield 4 weapons and gadgets. Players can rank up and receive awards in in each of the four classes.

Battlefield 4 classes breakdown

Battlefield 4 classes have the same structure as previous games in the series. Each class has its own unique role to play in the game, and its own weapons and gadgets. Assault is the all-round class, Recon focuses on stealth and sniping, Support features large weapons and demolitions, and Engineers have anti-vehicle capabilities. Each class has its own set of primary and secondary Battlefield 4 unlocks. The three different factions in the game each have their own faction specific class uniforms (which can be changed with different unlockable camos).

Battlefield 4 classes tips and tricks

Battlefield 4 classes tips and tricksEach of the 4 Battlefield 4 classes have their own specific role in the game. The Assault is the most general purpose class in the game, the most all-round one. Engineer is the most specialized one, with heavy focus on vehicles. Support and Recon are somewhere in the middle, with both being well balanced for infantry combat.

Depending on the map and environment, different classes have their own advantages. In tight infantry maps without many vehicles, the Assault and Support are more useful than Engineer and Recon. While wide open maps with lots of vehicles favor the Engineer and Recon classes.

Battlefield 4 classes unlocks

Battlefield 4 classes unlocksThe different Battlefield 4 classes have their own unlock tree. Weapons and gadgets are unlocked only by playing the particular class. Just like with weapons and vehicles, the more you play with a class, the more weapons and gadgets you’ll unlock.

I would like to see a fifth class, Spec Ops, for both fractions, where the class can carry weapons like the M1911 S-Tac for Primary and secondary. Suppressor, laser sight, forgrip, and extended mag all one weapon be awesome. Four attachments for Spec Ops while other class only has 3.

that class would have to have some draw backs to balance it with the other classes like, not being able to drive vehicles

So “SpecOps” are mentally retarded guys that can’t drive..? Seems reasonable..

I see potential for this class suggestion. If DICE accepts this as a suggestion and they make it, there would have to be LOADS of balancing factours.

If the class is to run/move faster than any other class, the footsteps would have to be louder. However, this defeats the purpose of the Spec Ops class altogether for being way too loud when its goal is to be stealthy. Being unable to man vehicles is a good way to balance this class. In my opinion, it’s not a very good idea. Others may feel different, but I’m just putting my 5 cents in.

I agree its a good idea but the drawbacks would be too many, it would be either plain overkill or a failure. My idea is that theres a fifth class that is paratrooper; light armour and lightly equipped but able to mix classes up, for example: an engineer with an m416, c4, repair tool, side arm and maybe a med kit. Overkill but the drawbacks could be that your easier to kill or gets less ammunition and grenades

I agree special ops are stealth if they did make them though they would have to move slower and when you sprint you just move a little bit faster they when assault walks I would be special though because I don’t ride in vehicles only with friends but having the SRR-61 with suppressor and extended and force grip would kick butt in siege of shanghai on the skyscraper for me I would love to use it but if the enemy team had a player that was using the ops I would think its unfair see you guys when it comes out and il kick your guys butt 😀

You are missing the point. The difference between BF3 and BC2 is huge. Its completely different games yeah. But BC games especially the first required that u actually had to be good at the game. The only challenge in BF3 because the classes are horrible is the pubstacks. Sometimes it wont matters dudes are garbage its a med train all day long. Besides even with lightweight in BC2 u were not a ferrari. Soldiers both move and runs much faster in BF3. And people did not do 360 spins with their assault rifles they actually had to know how to aim. Now u are sometimes forced to play assault. Thats a problem and now solution and then we back to the pubstacks if the admin is an asshole its gonna be worse. 4 dudes headglitching with AN-94s and M16 and they got a GIANT FRENCH MED PACK. This game is only competitive for some playing against people at their level.
But then its gotta be fair admins who understands that some payers that are actually good wants a challenge.

I completely agree , I’ve had several occasions where I’ve wanted to level up a certain class but I’ve been forced to go back to the assault(medic) class just so my team can stay in the game. Back onto the spec ops class though , I think the class would be more well-rounded if the player using that class would be limited to using only close quarter weapons (pdws and shotguns) but have better vehicular skills such faster automatic repair times , better maneuverability on so on. That’s the only way the class could work in my opinion . Tell me what you think.

      July 6th, 2013 at 6:55 pm

this is actually a good idea to have this class with both “Factions” but, it died with the pistol thing, what it needs is gun stacking or the ability to have a primary, PDW, and secondary weapon, with any attachments or something like that. but not being able to drive vehicles is a stupid idea and nobody would choose it unless in CQ

You’ve obviously NEVER played BF2, where it had a 5 class system and it worked, Spec ops being first class.. You’re seriously stupid if that is what think he was trying to say… And where the hell does a twelve year old think of Spec Ops being assassins?

        • Deylyn
          August 30th, 2013 at 11:29 pm

I Quite like the Idea of a Spec Ops Class, The Drawback could be the limited use of weapons ie they specialise in CQB so SMG’s and Shotguns would take there primary slots no Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, LMG’s and they would have to have lighter armour to move faster on foot.

          • JLuke
            December 22nd, 2013 at 9:53 pm

Spec ops don’t only do CQC. They also provide over watch and high priority. so i think either a pdw or long distance rifle in the class selection would be good. but be limited to something like the vehicles they can drive i.e only quad bikes or jet ski type things, and be limited ammo and armour.

You literally don’t know how to use the word literally. Stop ego boosting yourself by calling others stupid when you clearly are no better to say the least. If you weren’t so ignorant you might realize that there was a spec ops class in previous Battlefield games which, if you think how this is a modern day set shooter, isn’t exactly far fetched. In any case you just basically called the developers of Battlefield in DICE all 12 year olds as they had the same idea.

Ahhh, that’d be in the DLC. But I don’t think Spec Ops are meant for the battlefield.

    • DHG Lordkifus
      December 25th, 2013 at 6:23 pm

I like the idea.. however I think it would be cool if each faction had its own special class. like for US maybe have like a drone operator with a drone or something. And for Russia maybe have a artillery operator. you would have to make it fair so as not to dominate a game mode with that class. and maybe have a spec ops class that can use any gun and any tool i.e sniper rifle with a med kit. maybe make it so the best player gets it or the highest ranked player. Or maybe its just randomly picked. Or you could rename the classes for every faction. just some ideas

My Concept for a Stealthy Class

Infiltration Class: A class used to get behind enemy lines.

      Primary: DMRs, Carbines or SMGs
      Secondary: Low Calliber Pistols only.
Grenades: Only Tactical ones, like smoke, flashbangs and flares (No explosive ones or incendiary)
Gadgets: Motion Sensor balls, And a new and exclusive and small gadget to respawn at the point where its placed (only the player can use it, not the rest of the squad)

2 New Exclusive Field upgrades for this class:

Level 1: Quick Unspot (reduce time spoted by 2 seconds)
Level 2: Stealth (cant be detected by motion sensors or TUG-S except when sprinting)
Level 3: Assassin’s Blade (Your knife takedowns cant be countered)
Level 4: Vampire (Regain Health Faster for 5 seconds after a takedown)

Level 1: Advanced Spot (Increase the time your targets are spoted by 45%)
Level 2: Scout (Enemies near the croshair get auto-spoted)
Level 3: Health Spot (Enemie’s health is displayed while spoted)
Level 4: Stalker (Increase the time your targets are spoted by 70%)

in my opinion bf4 classes should be this way:

Assault – a choice to have two rifles instead of one rifle and pistol.
Medic – health packs and defiblirators.
    Spec-Ops – c4 explosives and motion mines.
Engineer – repair tool (or mines)and rpg.
Support – ammo boxes and a remote UAV plane.
Recon – option to have ghille suit and claymores.

of course classes could have extra gadgets to be unlocked. but all this should be standard.

I agree with the OP and with Killzone. Doing this would balance the characters more, and in doing so, there would not be as much backlash about over/underpowered weapons. Split the weapons across these expanded classes to prevent the ‘do all’ class of assault. Running as assault in BF3, finding/killing a support player, grabbing kit and throwing out supplies, then switching back to character created an overpowered class for the map layouts.

Side Note, My biggest concern for the franchise is that 97% of though processes will go to console, as PC has been left in the dust. All I ask is that since the game will be ported from Xbox (we all know it will) that the PC community and us alone, determine which changes should take place as far as over/underpowered guns and glitches. I noticed that many console players were complaining about BF3 weapons and thus changing the PC platform as well. Since PC does not require things such as aim assist, the gun damage levels also vary in importance. We as a community should be heard separate from the consoles.

It seems that the death of a true PC game is getting uncomfortably close.
Is there any way that the PC community could get a True PC version of the game, and the consoles get their own, instead of porting from a console version?

    • phobia
      May 8th, 2013 at 2:42 am

In general your ideas aren’t that bad, but you’re making the same vital mistake that is currently in the game with respect to class balance: The medkit and defibrillator should NOT be given to one class but split over 2 classes. BF4Central already mentioned that in one of their posts, and I completely agree with that. Give one of the 2 gadgets to Assault (instead of a 2nd primary weapon) and voilá.
Also personally I don’t like the idea of swapping out the repair tool for AT mines, rather have them swap out their AT rockets for AT mines. The repair tool is one of the cornerstones of teamplay.

*Cough* Call of Duty Modern Warfare had that *Cough*

Anyways, It’d be completely nonsense to have an Assault Rifle such as an AK-74M or something with Long Range attachments and put a Shotgun as a secondary weapon. That’d create an all around Class. Nope. We might as well as have Dual Pistols and SMGs then.

        September 1st, 2013 at 8:32 am

Medal of Honor: Warfighter actually had that. The Pointman Class in the game had a Primary Rifle then a Secondary Shotgun, but I still prefer the Spec Ops class the best with its “Spec-Ops Vision” thingy – basically legalized wallhacks – I think the classes in MOH:W where pretty balanced. Although you had to be a fairly talented at sniping to be able to use the Recon Class effectively. DaBombah Out!

With some of your idea’s your missing the point of battlefield classes. Their all meant to deal with some form of aggression. Assault helps team mates with heals and defies while also having a all around rifle, but no explosives for armored vehicle threat. Engineer has a “carbine” (ACR shoulda been an assault rifle) which has increased fire rate but lacks range. This class deals with armoured and close quarters threat. Support deals with suppression and mass amounts of people. Hold down the Firing line so that your team mates can pick off enemies while you get some too. They have ammo so you can resupply your team. C4 gives you a chance to kill armored units and ambush positions. But you have to get close and dirty. Recon is for survalence and long ranged combat. But as we now know, on BF4 recon has C4 like in some previous games. So I wonder what they mixed up in other classes. I truly think that DICE balanced out all the classes very well. Adding another class is too much. Some of your suggestions (like splitting up defibs and heals) are splitting one job and defeating the purpose of the class. Making it harder to do the Job of a medic or other classes. In my opinion More classes are not the solution, they made 6 classes in Medal of Honor: warfighter and that did not work out. You can blame that on Medal of Honor itself but it’s just another aspect of the game that made it worse. I truly think you can trust DICE to make the right balancing decisions for the next game. They’re my most trusted company (aside from BUNGIE which will always be #1 in my book) to make great and reliable games.

Thank Gawd! I was looking for someone with a voice of reason. Too many people were hacking and slashing class because of their own personal experience with the medic class. Forgive me being blunt, but you’re going to have to deal with it. You’re trying to destroy a good class and as Winchester said, make the role harder to perform. Creating a defib cool down would be a good idea, but anything more that would be too unbalanced. I for do have some what of a bias for the assault class, however I ptfo, unlike many support class players, that’s the problem we should look at. Too many times have I felt helpless against vehicles (except un-armoured cars) or when I ran out of ammo, the medic is then useless. Unless you want to run out of cover and revive the engineer who too busy attacking the sniper. The point is, I admit medic trains can be annoying, but just equip a semi or auto shotgun or CHANGE YOUR CLASS which so many people fail to do or care to think about. Become a support with a pkp and mow the medics down then switch back, don’t bitch to dice about it, and do something for yourself, become a solution and not a problem. IMO, they should make the recon class more effective with a one shot torso sniper rifle on core, and make ammo resupplies more apparent to hapless brainless support gunners the other classes are fine. I do wonder though how c4 for the recon class will affect its usage.

I absoultly FAIL to see what MOHW has to do with BF4 when they’re there own game under Danger Close, secondly BF2 had what seven classes? And it worked just fine untill the frostbite days, which required LEGIT teamwork, unlike in BF3. Also as a side note, the classes in MOHW had their own roles which people put to use and works JUST FINE.

        • Phantom Productions
          June 14th, 2015 at 11:26 pm

I honestly liked Medal of Honor Warfighter, it had a GREAT buddy system it FORCED you to do teamwork if you wanted to survive, I really enjoyed it but Dice had to be idiots and stop supporting Danger Close, MOHW had a GREAT multiplayer and the gun customization… Oh my god, that was beautiful.

Battlefield needs to up their game up, I disliked Battlefield 4 first to the wrong camos to whatever the hell the soldiers/marines/whatever they are apart of is absolutely wrong. Second to the glitchy ass game which kind of made it fun, I’m not saying COD Ghosts was better because it wasn’t at all that was a joke to all FPS. Battlefield players want realism at least in my opinion. The guns are too OP, the maps have way to many vehicles and vehicle trolls. There should be like a specific distance to detonate your C4 because people hop out of their jeeps and blow themselves up.. It’s not funny for the people who actually want to enjoy the game. OHHH AND THIS PREMIUM SYSTEM BATTLEFIELD IS LITERALLY PAY TO WIN NOW. Battlefield 2 was one hell of a game, it was realistic tactics wise, and teamwork wise.. Battlefield 3 just turned into a.. nerf fest, pay to win. Battlefield 4 was just I don’t even know. Hardline is great I like it, the recon class/whatever the hell they are called now aren’t as OP and is actually fun. Battlefield should like have like a small team work on the MOHW system and Battlefield Hardlines combined, that would be a great game I would buy 10/10 IGN.

I agree with most however i think assault should get c4 as it is a rush in first into the fight and should be able to blow up walls and get into the action quick i also like the weapon system however in BF4 i hate how engineers get PDW as main weapon i think they should be the only ones with carbines and have PDW as a all around weapon

Agreed with dagamerbro although a few added thoughts:

    primary: Assault rifles
    secondary: shotgun/ any pistol
    equipment: smoke grenades
    armor: heavy armor

    Primary: Carbine
    Secondary: semi-auto Pistol
    Equipment: Medi-pack + Defibs
    armor: light

    spec ops
    Primary: Silenced Carbines
    Secondary: Silenced semi-auto Pistol
    Equipment: C4 + motion grenade
    armor: light

    Primary: SMG
    Secondary: semi-auto Pistol
Equipment: Repair tool/mines + RPG or Multibarrel Grenade Launcher
    armor: light

    Primary: LMG
    Secondary: semi-auto Pistol
Equipment: Ammo + mini riot shield (deployable)*
    armor: heavy

    Primary: Sniper Rifle
Secondary: Full auto Pistol (g18/barreta 93r ect)
Equipment: Claymore + Spotting equipment (Radio)**
    armor: ghille

This gives the classes distinction into what their roll is.. no more engineer armies n unstoppable assault medic squads.
Only squad leader can be spawned on n ask for support from commander.

*riot shield is not from COD, its an idea from 2142 the little deployable shield to crouch behind n provide limited cover.

**everyone can spot, but recon can spot large groups of enemies with 1 click n send a notification to commander signalling the large group

    • WOOT FTW
      April 8th, 2013 at 6:26 pm

If DICE wants the focus for the recon class to be spotting again, it should be the only class that can spot. Then it would powerful. Or else we need to get some offensive equipment. The SO-FLAM only worked if your team was in on it.

      May 26th, 2013 at 6:35 am

I like the idea, but the multi-barrel grenade launcher should go to the support class. The M32 shown in the trailer is an anti-infantry weapon, not an anti-tank weapon, so the support should get it to provide covering fire for advancing team mates. If having the ammo pack and a grenade launcher is to OP, make them occupy the same slot, or go back to the good old days of bad company 2 and give the assault class the ammo pack, while the support class gets the smoke grenades and grenade launchers.

You’re restricting the freedoms of being able to customize your soldier to how you play. That’s the key feature. Shotguns should never be a viable secondary, it’s too op in cq. ANY pistol should be the only available sidearm. Difference in armor levels would be a disadvantage and leave those with heavy armor charging in bunnyhopping around. I think it is a mistake to bring flashbangs into battlefield, because that was one of the reasons I liked it better than CoD. I do feel that the grappling hook should be reintroduced but for recon to access buildings. Battlefield has had plenty of practice to fine tune their games and I believe they are doing a great job. I do foresee a lot of air vehicles wasted to get to the .50 cal first, which I think is a mistake to have 1 per map. I think there should be one per deployment to give the fair counter sniper concept. Regardless which shield you are talking about, it’s still the same shield concept used in Cod BO2. As far as all of this SpecOps class is going, it should be a jack of all trades class but not overpowered. Either equipped with a Carbine or restricted to a pdw, not required to be silenced. Same attachments available to the same guns with other classes. Any pistol. I’m also thinking m320/m26 and motion balls/claymores/c4. That way its a maneuverable cq assault class, but not a medic. Splitting the assault into assault and medic is pointless. Carbines are almost just as easy to use as assault rifles. I would honestly prefer a carbine sometimes in bf3 when I play medic. The classes are fine they way they are, and adding a specops class wouldn’t be bad. It would just have to be treated very carefully so it isn’t given any super advantages or disadvantages over the other core classes.

They look pretty balanced all right, but I think there should be like a medium armor don’t you think? And that you should give it to the Engineer. Also I think the Spec Ops Class should also be allowed Full-Auto Pistols too. Just throwing my ideas out there.

Assault – 2 Primarys no secondarys items for assault
Medic – Assault rifle defib and medkit.
Spec-Ops – Auto silencers bomb kits carbines.
Engineer – carbines as well heavy bomb kits which take longer to deploy repair tool rpg ablity to defuse bombs faster mcom defusing and only class able to defuse non mcom bombs
Support – Lmg the ablity to mount an mmg for other class to use mmg can not be unmounted mmg respawns in invantory after it runs out of ammo 400 bullets in all 300 spare 100 in the mag able to mortar an area but there is no mini map just x and y axis mortars have multipile left and right ammo choise like a flare and a delayed explosion mortar.
Recon – Smg secondrys so there not defensless close range and binoculars for spoting and laying down cordantes for supports mortars spoting with the binos allows your squadmate to semilock on with his sniper which negates bullet drop but thats it.

Side note all classes get a special 1 minute build medic a med camp which can exted the time till a soldier bleds out Recon a blind which is hard to see from the air or ground and anybody inside it heat sig goes away support barcad blocks a road Assault forward base which allows your team to spawn there spec-obs no clue bunker for engnieer

Side note if you pick up someone elses kit your is not able to be picked up by you

my biggest concern is if the game will become unplayable like bf3 did. about 4 months into it my guns all disappeared and i could never play the game again, bought a new disk, didnt work, re installed the game didnt work about 1 minute into every game my guns all of them just gone couldnt select new one or new class because there were no guns in the whole game. i even took my disks up to game stop and broke them in the store and through the pieces all over the store, i really dont want to do that again, it was such a good game.

you guys really wanna overcomplicate this game with tooooo much stuff

keep it a simple shooter, Duty strait up blows because its UAV this and Dogs that, when it was an AMAZING GAME with 3-5-7 stuff and simple objectives

we don’t need “x” amount of classes, its fine how it is, who cares about MOHWF as the franchise did something wrong, because it doesn’t exist anymore, DONE, no more ever being made.

we need “lag” free and we need certain elements on the engine to perform correctly ie suppression, laying into walls hiding yourself, poor party system, people taking advantage of good players on rent a server

we also need extremely good “balancing”, they can add 309584321095741 guns but it won’t mean shit if the M16 is the go to gun, you won’t use your favorite gun if joe smo is going to wreck all night with his noob gun. I will agree assault was obviously over powered in BF3, it really upsets me seeing a medic revive a whole squad after you laid 30+ rounds into everyone, but if dice would of put a cool down on the defibs it would of changed the game completely

you guys are crying about classes when theyre are bigger problems at hand

      • AlexChelu
        August 9th, 2013 at 10:10 am

They should add a new specialisation to be Kevlar Armour, You take 5% less damage from bullets, Smg and pistol bullets have 10% chance to not penetrate it, the image still gets blurry and still acts as suppresion
I totally disagree with throwing knifes, maybe not really machetes just a bigger knife, like in the Bf3 campaign mission where you play as the Russian dude.
I think that the recon class, as it looks “thinner” than the other classes so they should be able to fit trough smaller places, maybe also run a little faster and maybe be able to climb on stuff, for example like the ship containers, obviously it would take some time, as they have to holster the weapon, climb and then take the weapon out again. Maybe a drawback would be that the class would only have 85-90 health, or just simply take 10% more damage from any bullets.

Lot’s of good ideas, but I honestly doubt that any of DICE dev’s will come around and read them on staff meeting. Adding new classes would be much appreciated! Take away c4 from support and carabines from engineers – combine it into specops class. Engineers as vechicle killers should have very limited abilities against infantry…widely hated shotguns are the solution for this problem. Claymore mine for snipers to cover their back from that nasty knife also seems to be a brilliant idea. Ghille suit is absolute MUST HAVE. Divide assault/medic into assault class with M320 granade launcher and heavy armor, and medic class with defibrilator medpacks and standard M16/AK-47. I’d also limit number of optics and other flashy gadgets to put on your gun. Does shotgun really need that ACOG scope? REALLY? How about grappling hook for spec-ops or snipers? It’s sad how community has tons of great ideas to move the game forvard and DICE simply turns their blind eye on it. Maybe it’s EA policy to just release simplified games with improved graphisc… Dunno.

DICE will fix the assault/medic fiasco that was in BF3. I’m thinking they did it in the first place because it was more accessible to new players of the franchise. That’s the class I definitely want to see change.

My list of classes and equipment:
    – Assault (AR’s, explosives)
    – Medic (Carbines, defibs, health packs)
    – Engineer (Carbines, repair torch, robots)
    – Support (LMG’s, ammo, rocket launchers)
    – Recon (Rifles, spawn, spot assist mechanisms)

I would like to add a 7th class to your list: how about marksman?

It came from a youtube video where basically recon gets the semi-auto to make them more aggressive with the spawn beacons and and you could give them the C4 to make them be able to punch holes in the buildings to make a new route to m-coms/flag points and marksmen can have the bolt action’s with UAV’s and maybe binoculars that can spot and lazer vehicle for mortars or for the commander to drop an artillery strike.I also thought of giving the Engi’s Anti-tank rifles that have an arch and long(AND I MEAN LONG) reloading times for those who specifically are the team’s tank killers.

in my opinion bf4 classes should be this way:

Assault – a choice to have two rifles instead of one rifle and pistol.
Medic – health packs and defiblirators.
    Spec-Ops – c4 explosives and motion mines.
Engineer – repair tool (or mines)and rpg.
Support – ammo boxes and a remote UAV plane.
Recon – option to have ghille suit and claymores.

of course classes could have extra gadgets to be unlocked. but all this should be standard.

    Totaly Agreeee with this!

    May 21st, 2013 at 9:22 pm

I think it’s really important to make sure that this game stays true to the title. It’s imperative that it remains a Battlefield game! Now I am not saying that new things should not be tried out. I mean look at what Battlefield 3 did, an excellent game with lots of excellent additions. However I lately reading a lot of things that players wish for in the upcoming Battlefield 4 and quite frankly we have to face the fact that a lot of those people have only been playing Battlefield since Battlefield…….BFBC2 or even Battlefield 3. They don’t know what Battlefield is actually like. So when I read that people want things like anti-material sniper rifles in the game then I am like slapping my face. Think about it, if we had those then the whole map would be populated by little childish kids with their big anti-material sniper rifles. That would be….bad to say the least. The game needs to remain Battlefield and not become like other shooters out there that constantly try new things all the time. And it certainly does not need to be like Call of Duty. That is my absolute biggest fear. I have spent so much time playing Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2 Special Forces, Battlefield 2142, Battlefield BC1, Battlefield BFC2 and Battlefield 3. And I can easily and safely say that since BC1 the Battlefield series has tried to attract a lot more Call of Duty fans and cater the game to them by copying Call of Duty traits. THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION ABOUT MAKING MONEY! THIS IS ABOUT PRODUCING A QUALITY GAME WHICH SHOULD CATER TO YOUR LONG TERM FANS DICE AND EA! MAKE IT SO! I read things like “Sniper rifles should kill with one shot to the chest” Sound like that’s coming from a Call of Duty kid? Yes you’re right it does! I don’t want to see “quickscoping and dive scoping and whatever else scoping” in Battlefield. I want to use Sniper Rifles like I have always used them in Battlefield. And any other true Battlefield fan knows what I mean. Now about the Class System. For me I want to see this :
Assault – Be able to choose from Assault weapons however the main layout should be a primary rifle and as always a handgun as a secondary. Be able to choose from different grenade launchers like normal 40mm, smoke, LVG and so on. Be able to choose from underslung shotguns as well. Be able to carry more ammo from standard than the other classes.
Anti Tank – Be able to choose from all sorts of SMG’s and Carbines. Be able to choose AT mines or Repair tool and from AA launcher or AT launcher. Be able to carry more explosives from standard.
Support – Be able to choose from all sorts of LMG’s and HMG’s. Be able to carry C4 or a Mortar (no claymores) Be able to resupply team mates just like in Battlefield 3 (best system out of all the Battlefields) And be more resistant to suppression from standard.
Medic – Be able to choose from all sorts of assault rifles. But should not be able to choose any underslung attachments for them. Be able to heal just like in Battlefield 3 (again the best system I’ve seen from all the Battlefields) And of course be able to revive fallen team members. Should be able to run a little bit faster than other classes due to the rush to get to fallen team members fast to help them out.
Sniper (not Recon…but Sniper) – Be able to choose from all sorts of Bolt action to semi auto sniper rifles just like in Battlefield 3. Be able to carry a spawn beacon and TUGS. Should have a Ghillie suit just like in Battlefield 2. Should not remain spotted for as long as other classes. Maybe a couple of seconds less.
There, 5 classes I think work perfectly.
Also, I want to see the return of an appointed Squad Leader. Squad leader only spawn should also be brought back into the game. Squad Leader orders need to be more prominent so that they are less ignored by squad members.
Commander mode simply needs to return because it’s just awesome. However just like in Battlefield 2 the enemy team must be able to destroy the UAV trailer as well the Artillery Cannons. And just like in Battlefield 2, frienly AT class soldiers should be able to repair those as well.
I will update this further, thank you very much for reading and let me know what you think!

    • Joe
      June 10th, 2013 at 8:07 pm

This is the best idea yet. Keep it simple, but diversify from all the other shooters. Battlefield is a big enough franchise, there is no need to steal the community of call of duty. It is always good to change around what weapons and vehicles you have, but changing an entire game is bad. I just watched the bf4 gameplay trailer and their is naval warfare. The destructible content is beyond what I imagined possible. I watched a group of tanks destroy an entire skyscraper by shooting all the beams. It was amazing.

      Everyone should get this game!!!

      June 18th, 2013 at 2:44 pm

The medic revive should be more like in BFBC2, in bf3 Im always finding that I clear a room and go to revive my team-mate but he has managed to fall in a pile of ammo boxes. By the time ive destroyed the boxes to be able to revive him hes back at base. I like your idea on the support class, with HMGs, like as a piece of equipment, you place it down on a tripod behind some cover or in a building and you can lay down suppressive fire.

      • Random Interner User
        July 8th, 2013 at 9:55 am

DICE should buff the Support class and if they are bringing back all the underrated guns like LSAT, Type 88, QBB…etc they need to buff those guns before putting it in BF4 or there going to be so much complaining and no one will ever try to use those weapons.

*Sigh, The first BF4 multiplayer trailer came out 4 days ago and no-one has bothered to add the new guns, the new weapon classes and the new class setup for the engineer. Engineers now use PDWs as primaries and carbines are universal weapons, along with shotguns, DMRs and pistols. Also, while you’re at it add a section on the new weapon and vehicle customisation, if you need a reference use Levelcap on youtube. I would do this myself but I don’t see an edit button.

Why is it that everyone says that its bad that DICE are trying to cater some aspects of the game to call of duty payers? If sales start to drop then that would equal no more battlefield? The thing is if they do pull over a substantial amount of cod players then just like what cod do at the moment, the developers no that not much effort has to be done for players to fall for the trap and buy call of duty. BF4 & DICE FTW!!!! See you on the battlefield.

I agree, we should be allowed to customize our characters, that would make it fun.
      We should be able to:

      – Change skin color
      – Change backpack type (not color)
      – Change goggles
      – Write something on the helm

But small things, we shouldn’t be allowed to turn our character into Barbie. Just small small things that would make your character unique.

So basically like bf play 4 free where you have virtually unlimited character customisation?

  30. Thade2k
    July 3rd, 2013 at 10:20 am

    I would change the following

    1. Assault Class:

    – Allow them to pick a second machine gun from the ground to replace the pistol.
    – Remove the Health Packs and add something like a Health Beacon with a longer range which has a cooldown of 5 minutes and can heal 2000 total damage. Disappears if another one is placed or if 2000 heal is consumed and other players cannot place them in their proximity. Somtimes with 10 doctors around you can’t see enemy players because of those multiple health packs on the ground, it’s sooo frustrating. And the points can be easily given to other medics, any medic in the proximity of the Health Beacon could refill it and receive points. The beacon would not work if players are behind walls (Line of Sight). This will also make the Assault soldier more active into the battle instead of just placing the health pack on the ground and will remove all the “medics please put healthpacks”.

    2. Recon Class
    – Add explosive bullets!!! Bullets with an area of effect would be so great for Recon class, sometimes it’s really hard to get good kills, until you reload and shoot again, a ducked enemy can easily run while other classes can supress them and might get a shot.
    – Get an auto mini gun as secondary gun, it’s so annoying when you’re trying to run towards another point and someone gets in front of you. Most of the time you have no chance unless you have a lucky shot or the enemy has low HP and you can take him easily with the pistol. A SMG would do the trick. This is also for the moments when you don’t have ammo and you gotta… well, most of Recons die after they don’t have ammo and if they don’t find a gun.

    3. Support
    – I think they’re pretty balanced as they are, claymores and nades are not a big issue, I see Support more as soldier that keeps his position and supresses enemies. If he’s moving, he’s a walking duck most of the time.

    4. Engineer
    – Allow them to put traps directly onto enemy vehicles!
    – Allow them to “hack” an enemy vehicle, once started, goes BOOM. Does not apply to friendlies, once a friendly walks into it, the “hack” is permanently removed until next time applied.

  31. Bobby bill junior
    July 13th, 2013 at 1:00 am

If they do make a spec ops class they should do it like bf2. They get c4, grappling hook and possibly night/themal googles and a suppressed rifle. And have light armor but make less noise.

What if after spawning in the pilot seat of a vehicle, you were switched to a special class, called pilot. You have no armor and only carry a pistol, eliminating people wasting vehicles to fly personally to an objective.

Personally, i think the only class they should change in terms of the weapons is recon. I think they could of included a Cheytac M200 Intervention for unlock seen as the M82A1 can’t, it can only be found. More to the point though, i believe recon should have a better sidearm other than a pistol which is rarely going to beat an assault rifle for instance excluding the 93R unless you are rather talented. I think DICE should allow recon to carry a sidearm such as an MP7, P90, M5K and guns alike as getting to a good vantage point to engage from afar can be tricky with an M98B with a 12x scope and an M9 pistol. I think this would be a good and far addition to recon as the class is incredible vulnerable in the situation i’ve outlined.

Here’s how Battlefield 4 should really be:

-Assault Rifles are it’s exclusive primary weapons

    -Pistols as Secondaries

-Defibrillators/Small Medkits, M320 Grenade Launchers/M26 Mass/Large Medkits (The small Medkit could be to attach to team-mates, it would have limited healing and would stop healing after a certain amount of time or when another one is placed by the same player. It could use the Defibrillator slot)

-SMGs are it’s exclusive primary weapons

    -Pistols as Secondaries

-Rocket Launchers (Non-targeting Launchers such as the SMAW and RPG/Targeting AA Rockets, such as IGLAs and STINGERs/AT Rockets that need a laser designation to shoot at Air Vehicles, such as the Javelin)

    -Repair Tool/AT Mines/EOD Bot

    -LMGs as it’s exclusive weapons

    -Pistols as secondaries

-Large Ammo Box, Claymores/another gadget to take the C4’s place/Small Ammo Box (The Small Ammo Box would work like the Small Medkit one)

-Sniper Rifles as their Exclusive Weapons

    -Pistols as Secondaries

-Spotting Gadgets, such as SOFLAM, T-UGS and Motion Balls/C4 and Spawn Beacon

See? It’s really good the way it is. There is no need to tear apart the Assault class into Medic, no need to make a Recon+Engineer class (A.K.A SpecOps).

but then you’d be favoring the Support class by giving them more ways to earn points via Re-Supply, I agree w/ your Assault class.

I also heard the recon could use carbines instead of just shotguns, snipers and pdws

Carbines are being replaced by PDW’s in the engineer class, PDW’s will become engineer exclusive

i say include a “Spec Ops” class, for those who want a more tactical play-style.

PROS: runs faster, harder to detect (sound & sight), resistant to suppression, can operate any land vehicles, limited air & sea vehicles ( No Jets or heavy ships), does more bullet damage, more points for headshots. Undetectable by UAV’s while on foot. May choose a class skin (determines loadout). May deploy EMP to disrupt Commander powers & electronics (Cool-down applies). Buffs squad-mates.

CONS: not allowed to utilize mobile spawns or captured spawn points (limited to default spawn), not affected by ammo drops or health packs (may be revived), carries half of the normal amount of ammo allowed by the chosen class. Not allowed to give squad commands. Can not pick up weapons from dead friendlies (only dead enemies) No more than two (active at a time) per faction, regardless of map size & player count.

just my suggestions & opinions regarding this specific “dream” class…

I like all of your ideas except the two at a time thing. On siege of shanghai up to 64 players can be on a team and 2 is very small number of people for a class

Spec Ops would be cool to be introduced in DLC. It would have night vision as a gaget instead of that pesky IRNV scope, (plus it makes that epic sound). The class would get a bonus when using suppressed weapons and have all sorts of cool gear. Stuff like SCUBA gear that gives the player reduced visibility but allows player to swim underwater for up to 5 mins. Underwater rifles like the APS and harpoon gun. Tear and Nerve Gas. Flashbangs. And even a deployable zip-line with a 500 yrd range.

I’m just glad Recon has c4 again. Its a shame it’s shared with Support though because it’s the equipment that really makes the classes feel different.

My suggestion for Battlefield 4, in accordance to new naval combat and the Commander role being wonderfully back, is to implement a fifth class; Special Forces. Here’s a look at the gadget and weapon inventory for the classes. Not only would this fit the new five man squad system, but would compliment and encourage further teamwork.

Medic – (Assault Rifles) Defibrillators, Health Pack, Statn. Health Kit, Grenade Launcher, M26 Mass.
Recon – (Sniper Rifles) Motion Mines, Spawn Beacon, SO-FLAM, Grappling Hook.
Special Forces – (Assault Carbines) M18 Claymore, C4, Zipline, Diving Apparatus. This would allow the SF to indefinitely dive underwater in order to reach the objective inconspicuously.
Engineer – (Carbines) Repair Tool, AT Mines, AT Launcher/AA Launcher, EOD Bot.
Support – (Light Machine Guns) HE and Smoke Mortar, Tear Gas, Ammo Pack, XM25.

Too many people want to treat Battlefield like an Arcade shooter such as Call of Duty, when it is anything but. No vehicle limitations, no extra points for headshots( that’s what the ribbon is for, by the way), no spotting immunity- if you are the SF that got spotted, that’s your fault. I would love Battlefield 2 gadgets to make a reappearance.

It’s simple for spec ops give them a silenced hand gun, knife, mountable camera (for squad to switch from camera view or mini map),infantry mines (bouncing Betty’s or something along those lines),c4 lighter armour so they run faster but die easier and a radar jammer built in to there armour so when they get close to u the mini maps is blured and the capability to drive jeeps, quads, bikes, jetski’s and rib boats only and only 1 spec ops per squad (min 4players squad) that’s what I think anyway

Actually. BF4 have 5 classes system. here it’s the results in the full game
Assault : Same as BF3. but his gadgets got lower for being a addons. easier way

Engineer : Nothing changed. other than he got new rocket launchers type and his main weapon type PDW

Support : In beta. i saw he has no C4s or Claymores. anyways. nothing changed other than they made him more trolly and selfish class instead a “support”

Recon : He got most of support gadgets (C4 and Claymores) and they powered him up a little

Commander (NEW CLASS) : Only 1 player per team can use it. He can make vehicles spawn more faster than before. or supporting the team by giving them some packages and another thingy. He actually un-phycial class. which means the class won’t do any damage. but the player using this class STILL able to see player’s eye and their weapons and their statues.

Well. for my opinion. I would get Assault and Commander. since i like assaulting enemies.

Having played a lot of Battlefield 3 and 4, I think this is how the classes should be set up:
Assault: Assault Rifle, Semi Auto Pistol, equipment: M26, deployable smokescreen to give cover and move up.
Medic: PDW, Semi Auto Pistol, Deployable Med Box/Bag, extremely light and fast, new revive scheme means a longer revive time, medics can carry downed teammates to cover before reviving them.
Engineer: Carbine, Semi Auto Pistol, Repair Tool, MAVs (which can repair and attack armour)
Anti-Armour: PDW, Semi Auto Pistol, Stinger/IGLA/RPG, M15 AT Mines
Support: LMG, Semi Auto Pistol, Ammo Box, XM25 Airburst/M320.
Spec Ops: Silenced Carbine/PDW or DMR, Semi Auto Pistol, motion sensors/claymores/C4, Deployable Equipment Crate (like a supply drop except to change equipment)
Recon: Sniper Rifles/DMR, Semi Auto Pistol, Motion Sensor, PLD,

Classes which can use vehicles: Engineer, Anti-Armour, Spec Ops.
Classes which can spot: Recon, Spec Ops, Medic.

Someone mentioned earlier about a pilot class, it just means when you spawn in the pilot seat of an air or attack boat, you have only a pistol no armour, which eliminates the idea of wasting vehicles to get places, and also, people won’t just bail from their vehicle when they’re under fire, instead people will learn to become better pilots, and stay with their vehicle til the end!!!

I think the pilot idea is great. The insignia on the arm should be different for each faction, though, instead of being shared across all of them. Anyway, here is my BATTLEFIELD 4 CLASS SETUP
Assault: Assault Rifle, defib (with cooldown), mekits that can only heal a limited amount of damage, say 50 health. After that you have to find another one or place more. Sidearm, semi-auto. 2 grenades. Runs 5% slower due to the amount of medical equipment.
Engineer: PDW or carbine, repair tool with same cooldown, dumb-fire or smart rockets, semi auto sidearm. 2 grenades or 2 mines. Runs 8% slower due to having to carry all those explosives.
LMGs only. Larger, easier to see by tanks. Ammo packs don’t completely refill ammo, have to find another one or place more. Ammo box can be switched out for explosives pack, which refills explosives and grenades only. Semi or full auto sidearm. Moves 10% slower due to LMG as well as ammo or explosives pack. 3 grenades.
Recon: Sniper rifle, SMG, or DMR. Access to MAVs, UCAVs, TUGS, Radio Beacons, etc. semi or full auto pistol for increased survivability. No grenades.
Also, with the introduction of upgrade paths, you can play as spec ops while being a recon.

There should be a class called pilot (allowed only on conquest) they should have pistols only but can fly planes better (or choppers) and should be able to have more ways to customize any air vehicle.

  58. Benjamin
    March 7th, 2015 at 10:53 am

I think having the Pilot class would be a neat system. The specs would be as follows:

    – PDW as Primary
    – Pistol as Secondary
    – Radio Beacon, or Laser Designator as gear options.
    – If they are a passenger in a friendly vehicle they have the option to immediately re-spawn, without ticket loss, at a friendly airfield spawn.
    – The driver of said vehicle gets a pilot rescue assist.
    – They are the only team-members able to pilot (or co-pilot) jets and attack helicopters.
    – The number of pilots on the team is limited to the number of pilot seats.

As for the designated Covert-Ops class, I would have thought this could be successfully integrated into the “Recon Class” As there is good synergy between spec-ops and sniper roles. The only real difference being an alteration in primary weapon to a silenced Carbine or SMG.

I think all reinforcements should be limited to no more than 3 spawns from the operations of the squad, aside from squad beacon reemployment; otherwise, if you keep getting killed, you respawn back to either, the main base or an established basecamp, out of enemy fire (at the time of spawining). I realize it is a game, but it is suppose to mimic somewhat, real conditions (people killed don’t have an unlimited supply of return to fight…unless a squad is efficient with supplies and use of ability, it is dead….allow the constant respawning for ‘BootCamp’ servers, not battles of contest). The game overall is pretty good, with increasing one’s ability with the ranking system. The one pet peeve I have is with the Battlepacks; when I pack for battle, I pack with implementation that is going to improve my conditioning & current weapons of battle; not some sniper scope for a weapon, I may or may not see, a hundred battles later; I think that is ridiculous. When you pack for a vacation or meeting or anything you don’t pack, extra large ladies underwear, when there is going to be no need for them.
If, you use special ops, they must be transported in, via stealth ship, air, or underwater, with no respawn. As far as equipment, they are suppose to be the best of the best (a rank to be earned), and can use any weapon; specialization would increase ability, but not decrease intelligence (give this class credit, they are not stupid). Also, speed is dependent on weight carried & training ability, as far as carrying out a mission; they can’t be loaded down with all this advantage of equipment, unless they carry a shot of adrenaline, but that eventually incurs penalty, if overused (drugs may increase courage for at time, but in the long run, bring death, that much closer…anything over used & abused will) If, player receives damage, they would have knowledge, so hit points would bleed slower, unless severely impaired to less than 1/2 their hit points. I disagree with the idea of knives that can’t be countered. If, a player is on their toes and happens to sense or turn at an attack, they naturally, ought to be able to counter & call alarm; Spec. Ops. are humans with gifted talent & training, not players in God mode, that everyone should just die, because ‘Spec. Ops.’ are attacking…what kind of message does that send? Give up, because the brand name sounds good?….as opposed to actually having talents honed to the edge, by earning it?
I’d say, the game is good, for the most part; if things are to be changed, change them in increments, see how the players take to the change, then make what is good, permanent, but allowing for variables of improvement. Listen to the players, whom most frequent the games and appreciate them, and not some lesser wit, that gets the cronies to agree.
