Battlefield 4 M82

Battlefield 4 M82The Battlefield 4 M82 (aka M83A3) is a semi automatic sniper rifle which can be picked up at select spots on multiplayer maps. It’s also rumored to be part of some of the Battlefield 4 BattlePacks. The M82 in Battlefield 4 cannot be equipped, but has to be picked up in-game. Only one Battlefield 4 M82 is available per map. For example, on the Siege of Shanghai map, it’s placed at the top of the collapsible tower.

The Battlefield 4 M82 sniper rifle was previously featured in the series, but never in the multiplayer portion of the games. The rifle was originally introduced in 1980 and entered service in 1989. It’s mainly used as an anti-material rifle against light armored vehicles and fortifications.

The M82A3 is exclusively a Battle Pickup weapon, meaning that it has to be picked up on the map in order to be used (it cannot be equipped as a standard weapon).

Battlefield 4 M82 stats

The M82 rifle in Battlefield 4 is one of the most powerful rifles in the game. It’s the only rifle (so far) that fires a .50 caliber round, which is deadly against infantry and effective against light armored vehicles and aircraft. The Battlefield 4 M82 is even more deadly since it’s semi-automatic and relatively accurate.

  • Capacity: 10 rounds
  • Rate of fire: 200 RPM
  • Fire modes: semi-automatic
  • Reload time: 8.7 seconds
  • Bullet velocity: 800 m/s
  • Min damage: 80
  • Max damage: 100+
  • Weight: 14.0 KG

How about just give us the M95, and equipable at that. This is just nonsense. Balance out fine in bfbc2. And no scope glare where it would realistically happen. Those will the reasons I will not purchase this game.

Some people overreact. I just hope is, where it spawns, is somewhere badass. Like, in a MW2 campaign mission, you got to use this Rifle when you were in a building that had been destroyed in one corner and on a high story of the building. I don’t want this beast of a rifle just sitting around on ground level. I want it to be in a really cool looking sniper post type thing in a destroyed building or something.

M95? You want this beautiful semi auto .50 cal replaced with a bolt action .416 or .50? How about you get a clue first. I’m the proud owner of an M82A1 and I absolutely love the thing. It’s a far better rifle than my friends M95. Just because you are clueless when it comes to weapons, doesn’t mean everyone else is. They already have a single shot long range large caliber bolt action rifle, the M98.

I’ll be nice and give you a little education since you obviously need it. It’s actually the Barrett M82A1 the Barrett M98 and the Barrett M95 The M95 came out before the M98. The M98 is a better rifle. Just as the M107 is a newer version of the M82A1 . Would there be a point in having the M82A1 AND the M107? No, would there be a point in having the M95 AND the M98? NO!

People like you disgust me, they think they know ALL about guns, when in reality the closest they’ll ever get to firing a .50 cal is playing a game like this. I’m glad you won’t be playing this game, stick to the very realistic modern warfare, and call of duty games, they’re more up to your strict realistic standards LMAO

Hey you don’t have to be a douche. He just likes the way the gun looks and works in bad company 2. He neither said that the m82 was inferior nor did he compare any of Barrett sniper/anti-material rifles with each other. He was simply saying that he doesn’t like the idea of it not being an equitable rifle. I despise people like you, who think that everyone who doesn’t know about guns is a total moron. Next time try to figure out what people are say before you even think replying.

P.S I like the Barrett M95 from Bad Company 2. Yes, I never shot a 50 caliber before.

The M95, or even the M99 would make perfect sense with one being a magazine fed bolt action and the other being a single shot, if they were worried about balance. Instead of making the semi auto M82A1 a battlefield pickup, they could give the recon class the same power, but with much slower follow up shots. Though personally, I like the idea of how they are doing it in BF4 now.

While you are correct about the M82 and M107 being redundant, the M95 and M98B are not even close to being related. The are completely different platforms, with different calibers and different intended uses. The M98 is an anti personnel sniper rifle chambered in .338 Lapua, and the M95 is an anti materiel rifle in .50 BMG. Please enlighten me as to how that would be redundant in this game?

If the same manufacturer and similar nomenclature are the only determining factors, then by your logic the HK 416 and 417 are pointless together, along with the M16/M4(AR-15) and the Mk11.Mod 0(AR-10).

Not to mention the G3A3(HK91), the G53(HK53, short barreled version of HK93), and the M5K(HK94). Who cares if they are in different calibers? They are all made by HK, have similar looking receivers, some basic parts commonality, operate on the roller delayed blowback principle and all have a number between 91 and 94!

And yes, I have shot a .50 BMG before, as well as countless other military and sporting small arms. I also personally own civilian legal variants of the G3A3, M4A1, and SKS plus many others not featured in Battlefield games. The studying, shooting, and collecting (and soon to be ‘smithing) of firearms is my passion, and the center point of my life. You don’t see me talking down to people simply because they don’t have the knowledge I do. There are lots of ways to go about correcting someone without being an asshole. You should try them out.

You know more than everyone else don’t you? Well you don’t. Even if you DID own an M82, it doesn’t mean you know anything about shooting. As a matter of fact, .338 Lapua doesn’t happen to be a large caliber bullet. You are completely wrong. It is a .30 caliber bullet just like any other .30 caliber bullet. You are blatantly claiming that a 30 caliber bullet is the equivalent of a .50 caliber bullet.

You don’t know anything about this. On top of it, don’t correct people who are playing a game, because you are playing it too. You shouldn’t always act like you are the most knowledgeable person in the room. It is so silly. There are no real practical advantages to a .338 round.

Shut the hell up and don’t be an arrogant ass.

I would much rather have my bolt action single shot Armalite 50 National Match rifle than any semi auto Barrett makes for one simple reason accuracy mine is guaranteed .7 moa at a thousand yards but my hand loads make that look like a buckshot pattern sure the barretts have racked up tons of kills in Iraq but they are designed more for stopping vehicles than being a dedicated sniper rifle and what he was saying is he would rather have a bolt action loadout equippable .50 cal than a luck of the draw finders keepers(with a few measly rounds) scavenger prize that has a massive advantage over the rest of the sniper rifles we all know that there will be ten snipers and a tank watching the pick up points for it at all times what kind of idiots ruin games with that halo crap anyway? And are you kidding me with saying a .338 round is the same as a .308 round the only way you will come even close is with a .308 230grain berger hybrid projectile launching out of a 30″ barreled 30-378 weatherby as fast as your chamber pressures will allow using H50BMG or some other extremely slow burning powder. The factory loads wouldn’t even come within the same solar system as a .338

And ask Craig Harrison what the practical advantages of a .338 over a .308 are exactly and don’t tell me he’s lying bc he has two kills at 2800 meters with a .338 in an L96 variant. Just don’t bust on him about taking five shots to get on a stationary target when rob furlong only required 3 to kill a moving target at almost the same distance and only two shots to hit him(his backpack but same dif)

          October 4th, 2013 at 12:52 pm

While I agree with your sentiment that this dude was a douche, there is a significant difference between any of the .30 caliber cartridges and the .338 Lapua Magnum. The .338 LM is indeed a larger diameter bullet in weights up to 300gr. .30 cal typically only go up to 220gr or so, and most of the time those heavy projectiles are reserved for the magnums (or subsonic standard capacity cartridges). When discussing the .30 cal precision rifles in this game we must talk about the 7.62×51 which will go subsonic at between 1000 and 1200 yards in the best cases, while the .338LM under ideal conditions can get to a mile or more before going subsonic. The long heavy .338 projectiles have a much better ballistic coefficient than .30 cal ones.

          July 13th, 2015 at 12:53 am

Even if other people didn’t know better (which they do) That doesn’t mean you have any idea what the hell your talking about. The .338 Lapua is a high-powder round, and is much longer than your typical “.30 caliber” bullet (whatever the hell that means) It carries considerably more mass and energy than a .308, and has a higher effective/accurate range than a .50 because of the aerodynamic shaping of the rear end of the projectile. In short, it flies straighter, faster, and more efficiently than a .50, while retaining enough energy to kill you at 3000 yards. We can’t forget about the .338 magnum which has considerably more muzzle energy than a .50 with a smaller round. .338 Lapua holds the current world record for the longest confirmed kill shot with a sniper rifle in combat at well over a mile. It still has enough power to pierce the outdated Russian tank armor of our Derkistani foes. It can go through an engine block without much difficulty at 1000 yards. Do us a favor and research your “facts” before you go off and make an ass of yourself. I’m not the only person here who would take a .338 over a .50 in just about every situation in a war zone. .50 is not a practical sniping round in any anti-personnel situation when compared to the .338.

You don’t own an M82, tough guy.

-The M95 and M98B are two completely platforms
-The M82 and M107 are the EXACT SAME platform. By that, I mean the action is the same. The M107 is just the military designation and comes with a few modification (i.e. spiked feet on the bipod).

  10. Agdiaz5692

I think they should make it a class weapon but the last one in recon it’s a heavy rifle so they should just make it obscenely hard to use “over sway when not laying down and scooped in, major recoil (because even in real life it would be stupid to stand and shoot this gun off) and You can’t run as fast with it also when shot (without a silencer) I think it should appear on the map no matter how close you are I mean ive herd it shot off and have shot it and its very load bc of the caliber so point I’m just making is make it a skill gun not a noob 1 shot kill gun make it so it actual takes skill to use and player would have to use it in the game like marines and military personnel would in real life ( shit even when you shoot it standing up it puts you on your ass would be ok) plus with the amount of recoil a .50 has follow up shots (if need be) would be semi to moderately hard if not laying down with a bipod

    • Epichambonewin
      March 27th, 2014 at 2:04 pm

Agreed. Make it so that when equipped you move slower, give it high recoil, and make it somewhat inaccurate so it discourages use against infantry, and give it high amounts of damage so it’s used to disable vehicles like it’s used in reality as an anti-material rifle.

    I partially agree.
Rifles in game that shoot .50 should have immense 1 hit power and less accuracy but not be so much as to make it unusable. Skill should be required, without a doubt, but if it is made as inaccurate as you say it should then I would probably be shooting an M249 without a bipod than using the M82

ok DICE really needs to fix the bullet velocity on snipers. I mean serously since when does an assault rifle have a greater velocity than a sniper rifle??

    • Razz
      November 2nd, 2013 at 5:28 pm

Actually it’s quite common. Most American assault rifles are 5.56mm which is equivalent to .223 with a little extra powder pressure, which with light bullets they can easily exceed 3500fps. Most “Sniper” Rifles are based on heavier calibers but they do not go faster, in fact they generally go slower. 3000 fps is standard for sniper calibers.

Now if we’re talking the 7.62 * 39 Russian caliber assault rifles , yes they should be slower than the sniper rifles.

I dont own anything by Barrett but ive spent time using a couple of their rifles, one of which was an M82. Id go with a Serbu BFG-50A over anything by Barrett. I had trouble with the scope losing zero on the barrett after awhile of shooting. The Serbu is just as powerful and more accurate i believe. Another very well made rifle (not a 50) thats worth a mention is the ERMA SR-100. The video games only feature popular stuff. Theres a lot of good stuff out there being made by smaller companies that could knock the socks off of these pricey companies merch

As a big sniper in Battlefield I think it would be great for taking out LAV drivers / gunners and jeeps real quick. But I think it should be considered a gadget instead of a primary weapon, and you need to be carrying a light weight primary like a PDW, Shotgun, or Carbine maybe. Also that you can only fire it with the bipod down resting on a surface (ie ground or ledge).

I have a friend who shot a Barrett M107 in real life, he said it left his shoulder sore for like 2 weeks just from 11 rounds. So if this could be a gadget for the Recon class I would really prefer it.

Not only that but the SRR-61 (Cheytac M200 Intervention) is a .408 Cheytac Caliber rifle. That’s just about as close to .50 as you can get. So if you want a .50 just use that.

I love the arguments about .50 being op. You know what would be really fun (and even more op?) would be a 20mm sniper rifle. Theres obviously no such thing as far as commercial weapons go, but then again, this is a game that somehow incorporates a rail gun into the sniper rifle lineup. Heres an Idea: Give us the .50 cal as a non-pickup, and make one of those new fangled 20mm hand cannons a pickup! and better yet, give it alternating spawn points so people don’t just camp the spot where the gun resides. How about adding AR-500 grade 5 body armour as well? 1″ thick steel plate, stops a .50 ap, api, steel core, etc dead in it’s tracks. Proven by demolition ranch. (using a barrette m82 oddly enough…)

  23. Some guy
    March 27th, 2016 at 1:58 pm

The M82 is just over powered. I don’t have bf4 but I have bfh and even though its just the .418 in hardline its still OP but it doesn’t have as much character as a bolt action. The M82’s character is just being over powered. My point is the M82 is the best sniper rifle and the day they add an eqipable 50 cal M82 is the day nobody will be able to walk 50 meters from their spawn point and not get a headshot.
